Here it is, my first plane!! Having had a few hundred pounds shoved in to my hot little hand, it's rather unfortunate that my bank happens to be almost directly opposite a model shop! I know, it's a tough life!

Strangely enough, rather than queue up, I used one of those automatic paying-in machines for the first time & it rejected 2 £20 notes as being too curly on the edges-sounded like a message from him upstairs to me so into Modelzone I went!

Not knowing what I fancied, I had a browse & this kit caught my eye. I've always thought the He219 was a great plane, often described as the best nightfighter of WW2. And at the sale price of £20, I had to have it!

It all looks good, nicely moulded & with typically clear Tamiya instructions. I'll keep you posted-bit worried about that mottling now though!

Patrick

You probably caught the mottling off the auto paying-in machine.......I would get the model made a bit sharpish if I were you!!!!!

It should be a joy to build. I don't know which version you are doing but the earlier, often black bottomed ones weren't actually mottled. They received a coat of the darker RLM75 followed by a tight squiggle of the lighter RLM76. It's a sort of reverse mottle. It'll be a good airbrush excercise!

Later ones were reversed and received a coat of RLM76 followed by a mottle of RLM75. Later still they splodged late war browns and greens on them but that is a can of worms. There are always exceptions and no rules!

Cheers

Steve

:beer:excellent choice patrick, this is going to look great! glad to see tamiya have thoughtfully provide a cast metal cockpit to act as a noseweight , just as in real life these planes are very tail heavy , good luck with the squiggles (sounds like youve got an upset stomach!!!!?) cheers tony

Cheers chaps, the building looks pretty easy (providing there are no fit issues) though the painting could give rise to some swearing-if it goes badly I can't slap mud on it & call it 'weathered'! It's quite funny really, when I've read posts where Steve gives the proper RLM colours to others, I've nodded sagely, but now it's my turn, it's a whole new ballgame! I think I'll paint it as well as I can without worrying too much about authenticity. Shame it's FA cup weekend or I'd have more time! Patrick

Quite right too. The RLM colour is just a guide to how it actually looked, don't sweat about it. 76 is a light blue/grey and 75 a dark grey/green. I've not got much on the UHU but I'll have a dig and see what I can come up with.

I've just slapped RLM71 on my Ju88....didn't like the look of it so I've lightened it with completely unscientific addition of white and yellow!

Cheers

Steve

He 219 Uhu * An update - finally! *

Well this must be an attempt at the record for chronologically longest thread of all time!

After much pfaffing around, the Uhu is ( kinda ) built! Sorry the pics aren't up to much, I snapped them without much preparation.

More to follow! Hopefully in less than a year!

Patrick

I couldn't get that link to work Steve :(
That's probably coz this thread is almost 2 years old Allyne! The link's most likely moved but Steve will know where it's gone.

He 219 Uhu * I love the smell of primer in the evenings! *

Just some shots of the primer on, hopefully I've not missed anything! The Lichtenstein aerials differ from some photo's I've seen - the instructions show them slanted but actual examples of the plane have them vertical.

Next is the greyish base coat & then the dreaded mottling!
