discussion Helicopter ident. Please.

could someone identify this helicopter please not the Wessex but the one in foreground with the tarp over it I think it should be a chinook but an extra set of eyes can't do any harm.

Looks small.... Could be just a little r-bat (yamaha recon helicopter.... I think their unmanned so not sure if they're classed as helicopters or just drones)

Too small to be a Chinook, that wouldn't fit on the fantail.


I'd guess a Gazelle

That could be a Chinook aft pylon but I think it is a smaller helicopter, not sure what though. I'm not convinced it's a Gazelle.

It's not a Lynx Si, it is a three blade rotor head, a Lynx has four blades.

She should be carrying just Wessex and chinook I did wander about a Lynx but as said only a 3 blade head. I was going for the rear pylon on a chinook.

The ship might help...... You sure it's not just the top of a small eurocopter (as350/as365)?

It's the Atlantic conveyor on its way to the Falklands carrying harriers, Wessex and chinooks she did pick up a lynx on the 25 May I have seen a pic. with a wasp aboard but this is most likely to be a chinook I think.

I found this photo online and i think your photo shows the aft pylon of a Chinook.
