discussion Help 1:35th scale curtains!!!

Hi Guys

Im wondering if someone can help, I am presently building a Mini Art building and I am trying to make some curtians to fit inside the building, but I am not having fun trying this......in fact I am making a right pigs ear of it.

So i am after some advice/tips as i have never attempted this before, so if anyone can help I would be grateful, I am trying to make realistic looking curtains but I am wondering if I could make them out of paper etc or even attempt to make them out of material, any advice would be welcome.

never tried but i am thinking maybe toilet roll soaked with pva and water and then when nearly dry try to form the shape your after,would have to be very delicate though.or get some that are made for dolls houses.

Ive tried the toilet paper and after a few choice words i have decded to give that route up, you may be on to one there in regards to dolls houses....my wife said the same thing, i will let you know how i get on with that one, thanks for the help.

Have a go with tin foil and then paint it to the color you need. You can shape it around straws etc to get the ripples you need and can even put in creases.

Top tip from Andy.

You can also use the foil from wine bottles. It is just a bit thicker and easier to work with. ie. it don't tear, and it don't blow away when you breath!!! Being that bit thicker, makes it a lot easier to get into shape and have it stay there too!

You will probably need the foil from one bottle per window, so it a case of getting the misses drunk tonight and doing the curtains tomorrow while she has a hangover

You know how you can buy packs of blue cloths from the supermarket, for washing dishes,cleaning etc well take one clothe measure your windows in the house length wise and cut to length then place the square you've cut in front of the window and cut it in half. Get a plasticard rod and cut this to the width of your window, fold the top of each curtain over the rod and glue attach the plasticard rod to the window and there we have it a pair of working curtains.

Net curtains are easy, just get a pair of white stockings or tights, (if you can't get white ... spray lightly with white primer) cut to shape and then fold the top edge over some thin silver wire to recreate the curtain wire.

You can (if you wish) thread the wire though the net "holes" to give a pleated effect, i would soak the material in some soapy water first to allow the small amount of synthetic starch used in manufacture to dissipate and this will allow the "net" to pleat better.

You could always try Reality in Scale. They're based in The Netherlands and have some of the finest 1/35 diorama accessories out there. The have 1/35 scale curtains, table cloths(real cloth), paintings, mirrors, wall hangings (real cloth), wallpaper, carpets (real cloth).... the list goes on and on. I have purchased lots of stuff from them and have had no worries at all.

Failing all of these tips, try using some tissue paper, soaked in PVA, that way you can get the shape you want, cut to length and then leave to dry for painting, although I never used this method for curtains, I di use it for a canvas cover for a Famo I built, displayed in Trucks!

Thanks for the tip ive tried the tissue route and after a few choice words i gave in, im now trying out the foil approach, its looking good so far and im nearly there.

I have just made a couple of pairs of curtains out of tin foil and from the wrapper you get aroung Tunnocks marshmallow biscuits, they havent out that bad to be honest, thanks for that.
