Back to basics Barry as these things are not normal happenings.

What airbrush are you using and what needle/nozzle ? What temperature are you working in. What pressure are you working with on the compressor.

Have you tried the manufacturers thinner. Water does not have the dryers retarders or binder that manufacturers thinners have.

Have you had these problems before or is it just this paint batch.

Hi Laurie, It's just a bog standard cheapo chinese airbrush. I am using the Humbrol Acrylic thinners and I think that its just this particular pot of paint as I haven't had any problems in the past. I tried all sorts of pressures from 10psi right up to 50+psi and apart from an initial spurt It just wouldn't spray. I also tried a Revell and a Tamiya acrylic and they sprayed fine.

Alan, It could well be the wrong brand of oven cleaner as I have always used Mr Muscle in the past without any problems but now have one of Asda's finest, perhaps the compound is different.

I use IPA as a thinner for Acrylics .......... Seems to work ok for me.

Seems to me just a rogue can of paint Barry. I usually use about 20PSI or airbrushing pending on how much I have thinned. The more the thinner the lower the pressure otherwise it tends to sprout paint Just seems to be one of those unfortunate incidents. Had a few and to be expected at times.
