Hi all im new to the whole world of modelling,like so many of you im working on a limited budget,and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice.

i would like to know how i can make paved roads in 1/35th scale and also dowes anyone know how tall road signs lamp posts need to be in this scale.

hope someone can help thank you,for my first project ive chosern the tamiya german motor cycle and side car in 1/35th scale.

Hi there a tip i was given a long time back is to use a bakers sift you know the thing they use for sifting flour into a bowl to remove lumps. anyway you take the sift and lightly push it into your groundworking material and lift it away this will give you a cobbled effect, as for road signs and lamp posts i would say around 12 to 14 cm tall, i hope this helps.

just another guide for scale. take the measurement in real scale and divide by 35 = dimension at scale. inch measurement times 25.4 gives you metric, divide by 35 gives actual scale dimension. if a roadway is 8 feet wide, which is 96 inches, inches times 25.4 = 2438mm, divide by 35 = 69mm at 1/35 scale. hope this helps you to calculate on your own. cheers, Bill

if you're new to modelling, one way you can try to get a cobbled or paved road is by using foam board - about 5mm thick or less. I cut out what i need then draw lines using a relatively sharp pencil. I get my modellers knife then score the lines to the desired effect. I then get my pencil again and score a bit deeply to create gaps between the cobbles or slabs. Then i use for example a match stick or cocktail stick to misform a few cobbles or slabs. you can even scrape over them to make a few look really worn.

Colouring comes down to you. I airbrushed the foam with a grey with a tuch of brown. Then i poured over the whole paved area a wash of muddy brown and worked it into the gaps. Before it's dried a dabbed a few spots of white acrylic and smudged them in. Then i applied some industrial dirt pigment and i can say it looks the part

I recently bought some foam board from e-bay-it's an inch thick but slicing it in two is easy & then you've got double the amount in a useful thickness to work on.
