Hi All

Well been home since last monday evening and spent wed,thur,fri going to funerals both family and friends so not a good start to my leave and nocked me for six a little bit but head sorted now (guess its the price we have to pay as we get older) so hopefully i can get back to doing a bit more on my ship now and crack on with things in the next couple of days.

ok as promised heres some pics of what i have done today starting with constructing the smallest grating that goes on the focsle deck, the gratings came from CMB and i have used some of the mahogany planking that came with the kit and i think that my scratch built one looks better than the metal gratings that come with the kit.

the other parts i have made are the 2 beams that stick out from either bow (forgot the names just now) anyway the instrution book says to use a piece of wood 4mm X 5mm X 40mm and cut 2 1mm slots into it,this i tried but no chance so i did the next best thing and made a couple which are sleightly wider but not by much using a couple of strips of 2mm planking and some 0.5mm mahogany veneer i made them up in layers and i also ended up making them 50mm in length so they dont sit at such a steep angle.

hi andy yeh its been driving me crazy lol just knowing the stuffs sat there waiting for you and you cant touch it,i work off the dinning table at the back of the living room and thats about the only time it gets used unless one of the kids turn up for sunday lunch with the grandkids in tow but with things being the way they have this first 10 days iv'e just not had the chance but all ok now so got alot of catching up to do.Dont know what i will do when i start my Victory build that will have an overall length of 4ft 3inches i think it is one big mother lol,iv'e enjoyed catching up on your build tho andy and i bet she has been a pleasure to build as well.One thing i have noticed since taking this back up again is the feeling of satisfaction when you've finnished and in my case it really helps me to relax and destress (lets see if i still feel the same way when i start on the rigging)

Im sure that you will enjoy this build from start to finish Steve. Mine at the moment is a different matter as the part of the build im working on has no dimension or detail for it. That Victory is going to me a monster, will it sail Steve or is it just going to be a static model?

The Victory model will just be a static model because i dont drive or have access to a car which i would need as my nearest pond is a couple of miles away from my home,its a part work kit by deagostini the same as the SOTS thread and i never realised how big it was going to be until later but it will be one hell of a challange i know that and take a couple of years to build, sofar i have 22 parts delivered upto know and i think my hms supply will take a few more months yet before its done.

That will make a great static model, you will need some room for it as i think it will be almost as high as it is long. Keep up the good work.

I have made up a deck pump that i got from cmb as a little extra detail and may do a couple more bits yet ? fiddly little job putting that together but managed it in the end

Nice progress Steve. Dont worry about the time, i myself would loke to move faster. I think you are very much like myself when it comes to building, keen to keep going. It is best to do a little at a time i find if you do too much you tend to rush things and the outcome isnt as good as it could have been. Taking your time is a good thing it means that you are taking loving care in what you are doing and not just throwing something together and fixing it in place. Some of the planes i built took over 20 months and when you look at Rihards Ben Ain it makes you realise that time isnt a factor... he has been working on his on and off since 2005.

So true Andy i usually find that if i rush things then i make some stupid mistake and spoil it which is not what i want obviously as these kits are quite expensive to start with and i want to build the best i can and of course learn some new skills at the same time.Yeh iv'e read the ben ain thread and its very good just like dereks trawler thread,scratch building some of the parts i want to replace will take some time to do anyway because im not happy with the cast metal parts supplied.

Hi all

Just got a couple more pieces i want to replace then i can start on the masts/rigging and sails which should be fun i spent about an hour just doing the rigging for the tiller arm so fidley and some of the other bits View attachment 60173View attachment 60174View attachment 60175View attachment 60176View attachment 60177View attachment 60178View attachment 60179View attachment 60180View attachment 60181View attachment 60182View attachment 60183 the coils are for the 2 ropes leading off the tiller, i bought some double sided sticky tape and used a pair of tweezers to help me get a tight enough coil then coated them both with some diluted pva and once dry i peeled them off and stuck them down, i will have some more pics in a day or two i hope but she is coming on nicely and im very pleased with the results so far.

I have kept the cast gun carages and just painted them and they have turned out well i think also i have fitted some of the other cannons around the ship and given some of the other scratch built wooden parts a couple of coats of danish oil which makes them look even better bringing out the natural colour of the wood.

Thanks Gents quite pleased with the way things are going i have now fitted the cannons and falconets (what a pain putting the rigging in place for those cannons) glad there was only 4 of them,the mounts for the falconets where again cast metal fittings so replaced them with wooden one's drilling a small hole in the end and fixing those guns with some brass wire threaded through them and bent round and then pushing the 2 wire ends into the hole then glueing in place.

Kept myself busy the last couple of days making the windlass,i was not happy with the metal cast one and so built another from scratch and made up of 10 seperate pieces which took me a couple of hours to do and put together.I gave it a couple of coats of the oil before fixing it to the fore deck.
