Just a little back story on this one: when I were a lad and making lots of models my SOP for building a kit was to slap it together, slap some paint on and stick the canopy on last. (I know, I know but I was young) The last kit I made before I moved on to other things (drinking beer and chasing skirt)

was an Airfix 1/48 AH-64 Apache and was gutted to discover at the end of the build that the canopy was missing BOO HOO!

I wrote to Airfix but like many a letter sent to Jim'll Fix It I never got a reply BOO HOO!! The Apache was then used for air rifle taget practice.

Since becoming a born again plastic basher the Apache has been on my to build list and as luck and a piece of very kind generosity ( a big thank you to Andy - Skyraider) I managed to obtain one and heres the finished result. All built OOB which made a nice change.

All comments welcome

Regards

Nice one Chris. Its a wicked machine and one that is on my list of to do's.

Sure looks better on a PC screen than it does in your rear view mirror.

Cheers guys, I totally agree Ian I wouldn't want to be on the sharp end of one of these.

Looks great Chris. I'm a fan of in flight models and this looks particularly menacing.

Cheers Steve, these little bases of mine do seem to get good comments. I always feel a little bad not putting the pilots in but my figure painting ain't all that.

Chris

Nice job on the Apache Chris. Have you read 'Apache' and 'Hellfire' by Ed Macy? Great books, you will find a whole new respect for the Apache after reading these.

Fantastic job Chris. Im glad it went to a good home and that it ended up looking a great finished piece of work. It sat in my workshop for months on end. Didnt realise it was one of your outstanding ambitions to build one again after so long. Like you said what a piece of luck that i had it sitting around.

A better job than i could have done and a fantastic stand to.

Cheers

You won't be disappointed Chris, they are both great books. I'm not a big helicopter fan, but these and Chickenhawk by Robert Mason dealing with flying Hueys the Vietnam War are books everyone interested in modern military aviation should read. The female pilot in mentioned in Ed Macy's books 'Charlotte' also wrote her own version of events and that is also said to be a great read, although I have not yet had a chance to pick up a copy.
