discussion Hood vs Bismark?

my next build is going to be a sea battle of hood vs bismark , on my other sea scene I used paper mache for the see but this time im thinking of doing it with polyfilla and was wondering if anyone new the best was to seal it due to it being porous.

any advice would be great.

Have a look at some of the sea bases made by a couple of the members on here using clear silicon bathroom sealer....Looks really rather good and after all accounts simple to do...

What scale is this going to be...

Alan, P.V.A. should do the trick, but it will need a few coats. Also beware of putting polyfilla on too thick...it will crack. Best applied in 2/3 layers.

I'm sure other members have their own way of sealing the stuff and will be along soon!

I'm with Ron on using pva and building up in a few layers.

a little trick I use is to add a very dilute pva to the filler mix. this will help to stop cracking if you get it a bit too thick.

Hi Alan on my King George V build i used clear sealant for the water effect i got some polystyrene and cut the shape of the ship out of it then painted it the sea colour then put the clear sealant over useing a metal spoon ( wet the bottom of it to stop the sealant sticking to it ) then tapped the sealant with the spoon to make the tops/crest of the waves then when dry just painted the tops/crest white View attachment 54636 View attachment 54637 View attachment 54638 View attachment 54639 View attachment 54640 View attachment 54641 Hope this helps

they look fantastic I have a piece of polystyrene that would be good to have a few goes on to get it right.
