Went to the hospital today for my results regrading my sleeping, or lack of.

I have got severe sleep apnea, the information the Dr showed me, from the device they strap to your head and wear for two nights, shows I am stopping breathing every two minutes-my oxygen levels drop, carbon dioxide rises and my brain brings me up from a deep sleep to make me move, snore and take in oxygen. This is happening 31 times, on average, every hour-a normal person is 4 times a night. My heart rate is averaging 107 BPM at these moments so is not good, I am sweating that much as I am doing a workout just keeping myself breathing, this also has a knock on effect with my Fibro so hurting all the time due to never relaxing...no wonder I am knackered!

I also have to inform the DVLA and my motor insurance :( But, better to me safe than sorry.

Have a machine coming next Tuesday that will monitor and help.

Si:)

glad you figured that out, you must have been really struggling to get by during the day time.

I was given a simple gum shield arrangement to stop snoring and get better sleep and it worked wonders - I don't always use it now as I don't seem to snore as much but it made a difference. Hopefully you have some real life changing success which I have no doubts you will... probably rapidly too.

Sorry to hear all that Si.

What can they do to stop or alleviate this ?

Hope you are getting good treatment from the NHS. Seems that the lack of sheltered accommodation for patients dis chargeable from Hospital is causing many problems which is overspilling into normal running areas.

Sorry to heart that mate is there anything that can be done to help you get some sleep ?

You are lucky Dougie. Before I sought shelter in a single bed I got a kick in the back side by you know who.

Yes, this machine that is coming monitors my breathing and gives me a slightly higher pressure burst of air through my nose to keep the airways open, it is supposed to be difficult to get on with at first, but results are good. It also means that if I am getting better sleep then my muscles and tendons are not cramping as much which, hopefully means I can do some more exercise and get some of the lard off-this will also help. I just know that I and my wife cannot go on like this, as I am knackered and she is knackered from me keeping her awake.

Si:)

oh Si I feel that,so sorry to hear,

hope it all gets sorted,

Im the same lucky to sleep a few hrs over a night, did get a letter to go in and have test,s

maybe some think like you,

do you need to say over night for this or is it some think you strap on and do at home, ?

[ mmmm that sounds so wrong lol, ]

It is a device that straps to your head, you put a tube up your nose and all together it monitors what you're doing. I had to wear it at home for two nights and then you take it back to the hospital and await an appointment.

Si:)

ta for a bit of an in sigh to this,

i do have an appointment next mouth,to see some one in the hospital, but hate the places,

and the first thing they will say is give up the fags,oh how i hate that,

I not to sure if i will go or just put up with it,being knackered all the time,

not a big one on being a guinea pig, lol,

but happy for you and that you both will get some rest, :)

Finger crossed the kit helps you buddy - I'm constantly fatigued, only getting 2-3 hours a night at best :(

Tell me something though Si, do you have very vivid dreams?

Si I suffer with low oxygen levels due to emphysema so I have know what it is like when your oxygen levels drop, I hope they get things sorted out for you soon & you start sleeping normal.

John.

That's all a bit of a bugger mate, but sounds like a solution is at hand with that machine.

Hi si my ex had sleep apnia and was given cpap she stopped breathing mid snore for sometimes upto 180 seconds (I know that don't sound like much but I tell you when listening to it, it is terrifying ) we was told she could die from it. Cpap looked bad but it sorted her out, if they give you that, I. Am sure it will work, hope you get sorted mate, take care.

Not that I can remember Patrick, I tend to dream more early morning, exhaustion must kick in by then.

Sleep deprivation or just bad sleep means that you fall into a catch 22, with more tired and more ill, but never breaking the cycle. Wish you well mate and hope that you get more than a couple of hours, at least some nights.

Si:)

Like the rest Si I'm sorry to hear about your condition but I do hope you get it all sorted and soon

Yep, that's it Ken, this machine is being sent from Philips Medical and it uses a card to store info and I have to send it off every so often. I hope it works too mate as my modelling is now down to a few mins then a nap in the chair in the shed. No energy and just fed up.

Thanks guys, it could have been far worse. My modelling is suffering due to it as I just cannot be bothered to do much, the damn x-wing and Falcon really took it out of me and builds since have been stacking up due to snatching a few mins here and there, hence a lot of back and forth and stuff having being half built etc.

Anyway, a big heartfelt thanks for the well wishes.
