After my little burst pipe incident a couple of weeks ago and having talked to a very nice lady from the insurance a few things came to light that never even crossed my mind.

Because my 'stash' of models is worth more than £200 it is therefore classed as a collection and not a hobby 'stash'. This means that if they were damaged/destroyed by whatever means i would only get the value of the 'stash' up to £200 as i had not put them as an accountable collection on my insurance.

So just take care everyone and take a look at what your policies state about hobbies/collections. You might loose alot more then just the kits should something go wrong.

Allyne, thanks for sharing this mate, it really is a very valid point and one we should all take very seriously considering the value in these stashes we have. I should imagine there will be kits out there that are very hard to replace as well, not just financialy but the fact they are not in production any more. I will be contacting my insurance to check on this first thing tomorrow. Regards Martin :-)

Mate, I'd double check your policy wording. I set up buildings & contents insurance as part of my job (mortgage advisor). In all policy's I can think of it asks only if "any 1 item is worth more than £1000". In your case it isn't. Who's your policy with? Sounds to me like they're trying it on.
