I was searching for information on waterslide transfers via google and hit on your scale models website - oh so cool. As a newbie I know I will get stuff wrong but at least I have found guys with the same interests.

Thought I may need some help

Hi, I have been reading through the site and it seems that it could be the answer I'm looking for.

Found the site quite easily once I knew what I wanted.

As for my modeling problem, I'm finding it hard to replicate the colour of old bricks and stone. Has anybody got a simple way of doing it.

Hi Frazer Well come to the friendliest forum on the web

as for your question simply paint them the desired base colour then give them a weak wash of burnt umber then when dry !! Drybrush the original colour over the top you can then very gently drybrush a off white to bring out the highlights !! hope this helps

As for your question a base of matt red brick or matt earth will be a good starting point and, as Nigel says, have a play with washes and dry brush techniques to bring out shadows and highlights.

For the washes pigments, pastels, chalks and even paint all work well, but avoid using the same solvents as the base paint as it may lift the base colour, and for the dry brush highlights mix some of the base colour with white to give a highlight paint.

I surfed through web looking for marine glossaries and decided to look into modellers sites. Yours was among the first GOOGLE showed. Moreover, here I came across the glossary being compiled by Bunkerbarge. Very good job!
