How's this for a Christmas idea?

To my thinking there needs to be but 4 simple rules...

A member may only post one picture of his or her favourite own build .

The picture is not to have been 'messed with' and must be as is.

No explanations, other than make, scale of kit and the name of the original thread title the picture was taken from....No other wording allowed.

The thread ends Boxing Day.

My only other idea was perhaps to increase the photos to say, four per member, rather than a single image, thus giving a chance to include more favourite pictures.

Any thoughts?

My thinking is this ... the thread would work best with as many picture posts as possible & keeping the comments / questions down to a minimum.

So I'd like the option to say a little bit more Ron - when the build was done, what I like or dislike about it. Only a short paragraph really. That way each post is self-contained & easier for people to see and enjoy.

Basically it's what I proposed for the tutorial section many moons ago. But that idea was rejected so I'm not overly hopeful this time around! View attachment 238410

My initial idea was to keep it simple. Just show the pictures and perhaps add kit make and scale. I don't agree with the suggestion of making comments, good or bad, about member's contributions, that is not my idea and doing so could lead to 'you know where'!

I don't want to see as many pictures as possible - good though they might be. This would lead to no end of pictures being posted. Let's keep it to a max. of say four per member.

I would like to see a straight forward show of what the builder considers to be their 'Finest Hour' - without comments or questions from other members.

Please, if we are going to do it, let's keep it easy going, and if people want to take it further with comments etc., they can use a P.M. Not the thread.

I'm not sure why we would want to see a picture without an explanation of why it is significant to the individual. Just a picture means very little on its own.

I didn't mean lots of pictures in each post, just lots of posts from different members.

But whatever

I love this idea.

I sometimes sit when its not busy at work and just look at pictures of peoples builds just to marvel at how much better some peoples efforts are then mine.

I hardly ever read the description other then the kit make or what the subject is.

As they say a picture tells a thousand words;) and I think it would be really effective to see what some modelers favorite builds are.

Richard, surely the fact that the member has posted a picture means it's of some significance to that individual, and doesn't really need anything added.

My idea was to just to see a best pictures gallery, no more no less. Totally free from comments, good or bad.

As I wrote earlier, if anyone wishes to make a comment about an image or view the original thread the picture came from, they can use a P.M. to contact the builder, thus freeing the thread of any 'distraction' and allows the viewer to simply enjoy the pictures......

I think what Ron is trying to do is to create a 'virtual' exhibition, just as you would walk around a model exhibition display area, sounds good to me.

Good way to describe it, Caledonia.

As for me, I am in. Sounds like a great idea. looking forward to it.

I agree one picture I will pick one of my first builds

Perhaps...

Scale

When it was built

And kit

Says enough

I'm in. Some sort of guidline may have to be put in place like the ones that have been said already :)

Im in too, as you have to have a crap build to show so people can see what a disaster looks like!

I'm absolutely agree with Ron.

Just try to show "our best"...without any comments.

A good idea should be...:

One picture per member. On a simple thread....

Then just add below the photo, a link of the "thread build".

You like it and want to discover more about the work and the kit, or just want to comment something.... Go the original thread and do it. ;)

Just an observation but I think we may now in danger of loosing the direction with this. Ron's original suggestion was for the picture to be our favourite not our best. If we all post pictures of our best then there will undoubtedly be those who feel that thier best isn't good enough and will be put off by some of the more experienced modellers. If we stay with our favourites then the standard of modelling is irrelevent, which is also why I think that a brief few words of why it is your favourite would add significantly to it. For instance your favourite model may be one you built while recovering from an illness or one you built by candlelight as a result of power cuts etc..etc.. the things you would not know by simply looking at the picture but what may make the model your favourite.

The trouble is by asking for input from everybody is that we end up with as many different opinions as we have members and it all seems to come to a halt because there is no agreement on what we want. I think we have more chance of success if someone simply starts a thread with a set of guidelines and see what happens and I wouldn't ask for input before starting it.

I'm sure we tend to spend more time talking in circles about something than we actually spend doing it. and I'm also sure the key to sucess is to keep it simple. :)

As I said just an observation.

How about this as an example?

Display of a Tamiya 1/12th Suzuki RG500 as riden by Barry Sheene and a Yamaha YZR 500 as riden by Kenny Roberts. Built at the time when Roberts and Sheene were battling it out on the track in 1977 on my first ever trip to sea as a cadet. The captain liked it so much he wanted to buy it off me but I wouldn't sell it. The base is a polished pilot ladder step stained with Soy Sauce.

Hi Richard!

Well...when I said "our best"....is only for one reason.

My lack of vocabulary ;)

I thought everyone here understand the Ron's idea.

So having read all the comments and suggestions, how about this for the final thingy. Bearing in mind my initial idea was for a simple gallery, here's the simple 'Rules'.

A member may post only four pictures of his or her own favourite builds.

The photo must not have been altered (Photoshop etc.)

Only scale, kit make and name of original build or thread title is to be typed. No other wording please.

The thread to begin Dec.1 thru to Dec.31, 2015.

..............................................................................................................................

I see this thread as being straight forward and totally devoid of any discussion or extra comments. Let's just enjoy the pictures. If anyone should wish to ask questions or to view the thread the picture came from, they can contact the builder via a P.M. or find the relevant thread themselves.

Due to the nature of this proposed thread, and as a bit of a bonus, it would be really nice to see some of the 'old' builds resurrected too.

Come Dec.1, it only seems right and proper for the moderators to start the thread off, and not me.

So, if the mods. are in agreement with the above can they give their blessing below? Then we can all sit back and wait for some excellent images to be presented ......

Thanks to all for the input,

Ron

Well I can't enter this one then. As I don't have a photo studio costing £1000s all my pics get some degree of " enhancement " if only to improve the exposure etc :(
