Hi!

Just take your time and have fun!!

This is the most important! :)

Advice...? Let's see...

You think about the scale?

1/35 will give you the opportunity of paint better the figures or vehicles.

If you go for a 1/72, the most important will be the layout and the scene (rivers, bridges, fortress...etc)

You can take a time to see the dioramas threads, there are a beauty dioramas, similar at your idea!

Good luck ;)

Sorry Ryan...

Don't understand exactly your question.

The infantry or the figures have to be at same scale as the vehicle or tanks you build.

1/72 is a small scale, but you will find many kind of vehicles, buildings, planes and figures, for a very nice diorama.

I'll echo what the other have said, it's all about having fun, if your struggling with a model or building that particular diorama then put it to one side till your back in the right frame of mind. One of our clubs figure painters gave me some advice which I use in my builds now, do a little weathering and see if it looks right if it does put it to one side till the next day then take another look at it you may leave it or improve it but the break will give you fresh eyes on the subject.

The members on this forum are always very helpful and there is such a deep pool of knowledge to delve into you will always get the answers to any questions you have.

Enjoy your modelling :)

So If I got 1:72 scale my tank would have to be 1:72 as well? Would that look alright next to my infantry, not to small?

Yes mate 1/72 scale is the same whatever your building. so a 1/72 figure fits with a 1/72 scale vehicle. a very ambitious project for someone new to the hobby if you dont mind me saying

Hi Ryan i build in 1/35 only because i can't really see to work in 1/72 my first tip for dioramas is to first think about what you want to see in the scene, kind of armour are there going to be any buildings or structures, what theatre of battle are you going to do e.g france and the low countries or the desert etc. Once you have decide on which kits to use and where the diorama is going to be set, then i would get any old piece of board and play around with placement of figures vehicles and structure. Do a couple of drawings and see what works best and where, once you have got this the way you want it have a look at pictures on the net or in books for specific battles... look at the terrain is it flat, sloped what kind of ground cover is there etc and add this to your drawings. I actually consider this research as part of the fun and you end up getting ideas for things out of the blue, it is not as difficult as it sounds but above all enjoy the creative process. If you need actually help with materials then one of the people to speak to is Spanner (ron), give him a shoe lace and some pva glue and he will build you a small city he's a modern day McGuyver, but if you need any help just put up a post and you will get all the assistance you need.

Naaah! It's pizza bases and garage sweepings that Ron uses, not shoelaces!

As the guys have said, have fun, take your time. A dio is to tell a story so plan it first, get the size of board you want to go with the scale of figures and vehicles you're wanting to use. Planning is the key, too big a board the figures etc look too lost, too small and you can over do it. Get your board and then write on where you want things to go: troops, buildings, vehicles, trees, hedges etc. Once done you can then see how it looks before you start a building a fixing.
