HI MIKO yes thats the one lovely model of a rasberry ripple lightning an as you say it is a trainer vershion as TBHO i liked the trainer vershion better than the fighter single seat vershion an yes thats the real lightnig my dad lifed up on to its stand with his jones crane as i was at the back with all the airman an cives whatchin as i wanted to be in the crane with my dad but he told me i could not as too many raf offices about for the photo shot an he also mounted the real spitfire on it stand on the round about near sepreme head qaurter an may i down load your pic of the real lightning ? An y es i can remember the tiger sqr lightinigs but could not afford a good camera in those days so its all in my memerory as i used to love watching them birds take off in pairs an the reheat flames must have been 20 ft long oh what wonderfull memeroires

Hey Chris, there was a real Spitfire as a Gate Guard at RAF Coltishall a Spitfire Mk LF XVIe from 1963. I don't know of a real spit mounted on a roundabout but there was
a fiberglass model in place behind the main gatehouse from 1989 until October 2006, when it was removed to be used as a gate guard at Strike Command headquarters.

As for the photo, it's not mine, I found it here, so downloading for private use shouldn't be a problem

HI Again Miko yes my dad mounted the lightning on the outer gate gaurd an also the real spitfire on the roundabout behind the main gaurd room an several months later he had to take it down an a F/G ONE mounted then he took that down an he then mounted a F/G HURRICANE asi use to pull up im car an have a good look at it as on the nose it had hitler being kicked up the bottom by some sqr cant remeber
