Snap! I've never been freshwater fishing. I guess they are completely different. unless you sre fishing fof a particular species, say a mullet compatition, there is not a lot of skill other than knowing the depth and the type of sea bed which give you a hint at what fish will be there. Some fish are positively suicidal: shoals of mackerel for instance, we fished using lines with a dozen hooks and feathers, you drop the line off the boat, jiggle the rod for a couple of minutes, then lift with 7 or 8 mackerel.

Other fish are pure luck - turbot for instance just lay on the sea bed so if your bait drags past as the boat drifts with the current you have a chance Otherwise you hope the next drift will be luckier.

on a nice day,with the sun shining and a good group on the boat, its a great day out, and seeing dolphins is a double edged sword - nice to see, but their presence will have chased the fish away.
