one thing that has always annoyed me, people who think it's ok to park In Disabled bays when they don't have a badge and are clearly able bodied. That, and people who treat disabled folk as second rate citizens!


My wife has been disabled since 2007 and my mother since I was 8. I know it's common in parking lots and shopping car parks, but today's experience really peed me off.


Looking for a disabled car for me, we went to VW. There outside their doors are three disabled bays. The rest of the car park was full up, INCLUDING these three bays. With VW UNREGISTERED cars!!


Vicky went in and asked if they could move one so we could park. And we're told no sorry, come back later! Goodbye VW!


So over to fords. They don't even have disabled bays near the entrance, and it was across the car park and up two steps! Wtf?? Clever design planning there Ford!


So on to Volvo. One disabled bay, and it's got a car on it on Ramos, flags and bunting round it! Well done Volvo!


Across to Honda. What a mistake that was. I pulled up outside, disabled bays had barriers round them and ask if we could park there, 'no they're for disabled people.' I'm disabled and show my badge, to which the guy huffs and says everyone can get these nowadays. Wait and I'll get someone to move them. I shout, don't bother ignorant ass!


Finally, at the end of my tether, I go to Audi. What a difference. The disabled bays are right there, I get out, into the wheelchair and someone walks up from inside, opens the door and asks if I'd like someone to push me?


Then we are given a seat, and asked if we would like a coffee or tea, they don't even know why we are there yet. Could have been browsing!


The salesman who we spoke was great, listened, didn't push, made some points about each vehicle, and how it would be adapted.


Th showed us every one of those, and even called someone with an Audi he knew who had the adaption, 15 mins later we could see the car with the adaption.


Totally different experience, and I've ended up ordering my new Q3 with wheelchair adaptions. Chuffed after such a failed day. and to the rest of the dealerships. If you offer mobility services, try to make sure you are disabled friendly!!

I feel for you, I am disabled and it really gets me angry when folk at supermarkets use the bays with no blue badge.


I also had a do with a Citroen garage regarding a mobility car, I shuffled in and asked to speak to the mobility guy. His first question was: how much deposit have you got! Er...non of your cuffing business, show the cars please. He then showed me a couple and I liked the new Picasso as I was driving an old one at the time, he showed me to a car and then buggered off, leaving me to struggle. I went back in and asked him for a brochure of the cars and the deposit prices, he proceeded to use a note pad and jot the figures down, I asked for a brochure so I could show my wife and he ignored me...stuff Clemo and Citroen. I went to Vauxhall and got top service.

You are both quite right. It is despicable and when I see able bodied people with out the appropriate


disk parking in disabled section I tell them off ( I stand at slightly more than fist reach distance during


this action).


But on the other hand being old I have toapplaud that young people have given me respect despite


the fact that I am at the moment very much able bodied. Living in a block of flats of 500 people, of


whom 50% are young people. I take my hat off to them they are really ambassadors to their age group.


Chaps just to confirm that I have never ever parked in a disabled space.

My 12 year old nephew is a wheelchair user and when we go out we have to use fairly large wheelchair adapted vehicle.


We are very rarely able to use a disabled parking space because they are full of people in very nice taxpayer funded mobility cars who have seemingly often been given these cars and blue badges just for being old and/or fat.


Try and ask one of these 'legitimate' blue badge holders if they would mind giving up their space so we might stand a fighting chance of safely unloading My nephew in his chair and behold a torrent of I'm entitled to use this space because my blue badge says so. As they walk off wheezing and smoking!


It's not just 'able bodied' people who are capable of abusing a system.

annoys me too!...always has, even more so since my partner has been classed as disabled a few months ago


we shall see what experiences we get at car dealerships when we go for our first mobility car next year

my partner has mobility problems, she needs aids to walk but by your criteria she dosnt deserve the blue badge/mobility car that she qualifies for, since she can walk............i get annoyed when there isnt any spaces but i have patience, i either wait for a space to become available or i drop her off and go and find a parking space!...and yes if they have been awarded a blue badge then they are entitled to use it, we all went through the PIP experience which wasnt nice at all to get any award of mobility or care allowance

That is a shame, but not all of us Blue-Badge users are like that.

Oooh where to start with this? 'Offensive' the most overly used word in the English language at the moment!


Not going to apologise for expressing an opinion Paul if you're offended it probably says more about you than me.


Was I trying to introduce some kind of disability snobbery? Second and third class citizens??? What a bizarre thing to say. I'm not sure how you managed to leap from what I said to that? Probably in your eagerness to be offended!


What I was pointing out is that disabled people can sometimes be just as inconsiderate as able bodied people. And that isn't something I've just made up my friend. That is from experience. Just because you are 'entitled' to something surely you should only use it when absolutely necessary, there are different levels of disability and if you can see that somebody needs it more than you wouldn't the decent thing be to forgo your 'entitlement'? I know I would.


It is my opinion that the whole blue badge system is so widely abused by all parties that it may as well be scrapped as it holds no real benefit for those it is intended to help. Again, my opinion from experience.

I agree but disagree. Scrapping the blue badge is the wrong thing to do, but I do agree that in some counties, if you can't run a marathon, you can apply!


And yes, it is abused by some people who dont really need it, but we should not judge a book by its cover.


Vicky has primary MS and some days is in a vegetated state, exactly the same symptoms as a full on stroke. But one or two days a month, she may walk normally.

That opens a whole new can of worms. I got assessed and they made me feel like I was sitting in a wheelchair just to get £50 a week!


I'd gladly swap my screwed up back and loss of ability for a day, just so some people can experience the feelings. Especially the people running pip assessments who look down on you!

This is not as harsh a situation but we have kids one is a baby. I have a 3 door car. I can't ever get child spaces because similar people Park in them. Sometimes people with older children who don't need the space to get buggies etc... In. Or just lazy people. Its frustrating. I've seen worse things though. It can just get you riled up at times. Simple things when your wasting good family time shopping!

You really have to take the time to write to the complaints departments of these garages. The head office would hate to know their franchises are being so unfriendly and un-accommodating. A little letter to your local paper for some bad publicity too. No one else should have to suffer this indignity

I did something that's probably more effective Dougie, I informed Motability of the garages I went to that are unaccommodating for disabled customers. The lady I spoke to was very concerned and disgusted that the franchises they had listed were not adhering to the Motability criteria, which is that disabled bays must be kept clear of non disabled user vehicles.


I'm sure that they will be in contact with VW, Volvo especially, as she about bust a vessel when I said the car was their show car on ramps, and Honda!

I work for a company that assists disabled people live a life in the community and independent living. Now a coupe of years ago I got a blooming ticket from a blue nose traffic warden. I had parked in a disabled bay to take my client to some entertainments. I went back to the car and why had I got a ticket? The car park was empty but because my client had special needs we needed to be close to the entrance and parked there in the required disabled bay.


I saw the traffic warden who was a private company and explained my name company etc and valid badges etc so why had I had a ticket.?


The traffic warden said you ae both able to get out the car etc


I explained the special needs my client had etc and got his number and contacted his office later that day


Still I had to pay £45


Loyal company I work for never even helped...... That friggin got my goat up.


I complained for over 8 months, the company still have not apologised for the insults to my client and myself or the wrongful ticket!!!!


Ps ( I hate people who abuse the disabled bays!!!

That's a load of cobblers, being disabled is a wide range of ailments, from not walking to not being able to walk far. That warden is a tool and so is your company, your company is discriminating against your client.
