I'm pretty sure I have seen in the past a few members from America?

If there are active members from there could you get in touch with me please, while I'm asking if your from NY could you recommend some good model shops whilst I'm visiting later in the year :)

Thanks

Adrian

Well seems none as given you a reply, I've got a pond in the garden I will be your friend from across it Adrian :)

Emailed a friend over there and he said he dosent think there is one in the city. There's one in Brooklyn that's been closing down for the last 2 years but apparently lots of stores in that area say that when they have no intention of closing it just means the have a constant "closing down sale"

They do more rc stuff than models but it's quite popular apparently... Very cheap as everything's always "on sale/to clear"

According to Yelp there are 97 Model shops in Manhattan!

I'm sure I saw NYC next to one members profile, I hope they haven't gone :)

Wish i could help, but I am as far from NYC as you can get, just about. California boy.

i went here, but that was back in 2012,I dont know if they are still going. i thought it was a bit pricey at the time and the selection wasn't brilliant. I didn't buy anything.

Jans hobby shop

1435 Lexington Ave # 2, New York, Its about half way up Central Park on the right hand side a few streets over if I remember correctly.

I've had the idea for a while that the forum has a page listing model shops from around the world that members can recommend. I thought it would be useful if any of us were on holiday or business in a foreign country that a visit to the LMS can be added to your itinerary.

I travel a lot with work and try to find a model shop in the place I am visiting if possible, sometimes you find things not easily available at home.

Now, can anyone recommend a model shop in Addis Ababa?

Well I'm stuck here for another week, that's another week away from the workbench - starting to get the heebie-jeebies!

I'm from good old UK, but was in NY over Christmas.

I found an 'Alladins cave' of a model shop just off 5th Ave, a few blocks from the Rockefeller centre:

Number 23, West 45th street.

It's called the Red Caboose.

Yes, you can guess by the name it's a lot of railways stuff, but it's crammed floor to ceiling with model kits.

I could have spent an AGE in there!

Seeminly, it isn't cheap compared to other US shops, but I thought that compared to the UK, and with the dollar quite weak at present, it was bargain time!

From the outside its just a door between two other places.

Once inside you go downstairs - it's blinkin' big!

Have fun. Oh, and if you happen to spot a scruffy taped-up little pack of the Konami Thunderbird 2 'pod' with 4-5 little rescue vehicles (no actual TB2) it was reduced I think, to $13 and hung on a rack with little die cast cars...

(I'm kicking myself every day for not buying it!!!!!)

Get it - I'll pay + postage.

All the best, Roy.

I'll be taking a spare suitcase with me when I go for all my own "gifts" but was hoping to be really cheeky and find someone over in US that I can have some decals shipped to then forwarded onto me as just mail, to avoid paying ridiculous tax on :)
