Hello everyone. I've recently come back to modeling, after a long lay off. I'm looking for advice really, particularly with types of paint to use on my models. I mainly use plastic, resin and metal kits. Kits included AFVs, stand alone figures. 1/35 ,54mm 75mm scales. I have also been bought a airbrush, something I've never used before . So any tips would be most welcome. Tia . Tommo.

Welcome to the forum Eddie.
There are so many paint ranges for models these days but basically they can be split into 3 types. Water based acrylics e.g Vallejo Model Color, enamels e.g Humbrol and lacquers e.g MRP. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. Lacquers smell but airbrush well and are tough, acrylics don't smell, brush paint well and so on.
The choice is yours.
There is a lot of good advice on YouTube on using an airbrush. Sadly there is also some poor advice. Main thing is patience and practice.

Hi and welcome, enjoy the forums mate.
Theres also those paints that are technically non water based acrylics, eg: Tamiya and Mr Hobby. But otherwise as above, acrylics, enamels, and lacquers, plus theres also oil paints, great for effects, washes, weathering, etc. Then theres varnishes, pigments, primers, etc....
I'm new to air brushing too, but its great fun learning how to use it....
I find with anything resin you really have to give it a good wash, before the primer will take, ideally should wash plastic kits also, but TBH, I rarely do, just a quick clean up and prime.
Pics are always welcome, would be great to see your models....

Thanks for the welcome and advice guys.

Welcome.... Hope you like it here

My twopennuth....... When you find a paint brand you like, stick to it cos you will learn how it works, how it thins, etc

Personally I like Vallejo...... The Air range for airbrushing and Model Colour for hairybrushing

But occasionally I use the current Humbrol stuff as they have some colours that's perfect match (I'm thinking WW2 RAF and Luftwaffe colours)

And always use brand specific thinner..... Don't try to cut corners by using something else.... False economy
