After the Border Lanc I want something relatively easy to get back in the game and this Osprey in 1/48 scale might be just the thing. Not my preferred scale or subject, but it should be a fairly straight forward build, which is the medicine I need.

This model was a gift from a friend while I was in hospital.

It has raised panel lines and is a model of a development aircraft, it is a rather old kit.

I will provide some pictures in a day or two.

A little light relief before I get stuck onto my stash.

HI Barry oh good to see you back modelin so quick after that lank which was a great pity so jen an i hope you can enjoy doin this model an get your confidence back as you are a superbe modeler SO ENJOY an lookin forward to seein the pics of the build

Good for you Barry. Use your undoubted skills to build something relatively straightforward. Might not be the case if there are old kit fit issues. Looking forward to the build.

IMG_7972.jpg IMG_7968.jpg IMG_7970.jpg IMG_7969.jpg On with the build but first a couple of formalities.

I have had a good clean of my model room and tools. This is how it looks now.

For some reason photos are still positioned at the top so I cannot really lay this out the way I want in a logical order relative to the text. Regardless of what I try to do.

Anyway, apologies for that. To carry on

if you look at the photo of my stash you might think that I am a fan of Italari as four out of 15 (including the one on the bench) are them! In fact I have only built one Italari before. Two of those in my stash were gifts while I was in hospital and very grateful I am indeed.

I also show a photo of the box top picture of this very unusual aircraft.

On cutting plastic I found that it is that rather brittle kind that you often find on kits from the 1990’s. Not really a problem and a test fit of the fuselage halves shows a really good fit.

now that is bizarre. One photo being placed at the bottom then with the other at the top. This software clearly has a mind of its own….

anyway. I will start with the cockpit shortly. I am keeping this simple, out of the box with canopy masks being the only additional purchase. This model is of a development aircraft so relatively little weathering will be done.

Nice to see everything nice and organised. Italeri kits are pretty mixed - rather good to pretty poor. This is a very strange looking aircraft that's for sure. The fuselage fit does look very good.
On the box art the props and engines look incredibly big.

I have never been able to work, or live in a mess. Cleaning the work space and tools left me invigorated and keen to start on a new kit. It is a nice space to be in. I had four hours over about three sessions yesterday. I am hoping to do similar today. I will post progress pictures later today.

I have been building up sub-assemblies ready to paint. Fit is generally good, no real issues that would worry anyone with a few models under his belt. Detail is basic and as I will have it buttoned up not much will be seen anyway.

below you can see where I have used some plastic sheet to strengthen a join. I did that with the engine cowls as well.

I am struggling to use this forum, I have to say.

This really is a nice straight forward kit. A little lacking in detail which makes it a good base for detailing. I don’t know about accuracy as I have not researched the subject, doing as I am an OOB build. It is going together well, a little filler and strengthening here and there as mentioned.

I have now put together all the sub assemblies and I am ready to paint, starting with the interior.

Below pics of all the parts to the model laid out and grouped.

parts of the main assembly that won’t be painted until the main construction is done.

Parts cleaned up many of which will be part of ‘final fittings’

undercarriage subs. I need to sand the wheels.

Here are the parts awaiting to be painted.

I have painted the interior and done some dry brushing. Little if anything of this behind the bulkhead will be seen.

I have also pulled together a couple of the sub-assemblies ready to fit into the interior. The small window transparencies have also been added, these had a perfect fit, I used a spot of Mr S Cement, applied with a fine brush right at the edge allowing capillary action to do its job.

Good progress Barry. I have not used styrene cement for clear parts for fear of it fogging the transarencies. I imagine it gives a stronger join than the PVA type glues.
