yeah I know I said I would probably never build another spit but this was a nice easy kit that could take me over to the weekend (it's telford you know )

Due to the very vague header on the instructions of where this spitfire was based I did a little bit of digging and found out this was squdron leader Eward John 'Jack' Charles plane who was based at biggin hill who was credited with the rafs 1,000 kill although there is a bit of controversy with this as another pilot in his squadron made a kill almost at the same time ,

The header in the instructions only mention that this plane was stationed at Tangmere in 1944 with no squadron number given or a pilot name but I can't find anything to back this up infact I found nothing on this plane after 43

So here it is hope you like it and comments/criticise in always welcome :) View attachment 91807

Thank you Leo , :D it does seem like it doesn't it

Good job Alan. The invasion stripes have come out very nicely indeed.

There's some stuff about your pilot here.

http://www.acesofww2.com/Canada/aces/charles.htm

He was quite some pilot and officer and was indeed Wing Commander (Flying) at Tangmere from May 26th 1944. He returned to Canada in November 1944 and continued flying with the RCAF. The code letters on the Spitfire, EJ-C, are his initials. Wing Commanders could do that :)

That Spitfire ended up with the post war Italian Air Force !

Cheers

Steve

That's a nice photograph.

I bet there aren't any 26 year old Wing Commanders in the RAF today!

A bit more about that 1,000th Biggin Hill Wing kill here: http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/rene-mouchotte-french-raf-pilot.17913/#post-153603

Nice build too Alan, very weathered and well used. Love the figure, a nice touch to the scene.

Lovely Spitfire and I like the figure walking away really tells a tale.

Thanks joe and dave I'm glad you like it :)

Thanks for the link joe I did know the other pilot was French and also they shared the winnings but I couldn't find anything on the bloke so thanks for that it's very interesting:)

Beautiful spitfire and some nice history there too, lovely paint work on the figure.

Nice Spit Alan. The stripe scheme is my favorite one ;)

Wow!! Looks a very weathered plane, well done!

great work Alan, real like it,and also the guy, looks great as well, like the colors of his coat,

very well done :D

That's a very nice Spitfire Al, makes me want to build one!

Perhaps the weathering could be a touch more subtle?

beatiful build, a war weary Spit that, very effectively done.
