When I first heard about this story I thought the woman had a nerve but on reflection she has a point, but not with the invoice and threats of court action. It takes a lot of time, effort and in some cases expense to organise a children's party - ask me how I know. We might scoff at the activities this lady arranged for such young children but that isn't the point. She extended an invitation to her child's party that was accepted and based on this she paid out good money. To later have the invitation not taken up without any apparent attempt to alert her is just plain rude. If there had been more children not attend after the expense gone to this lady's expense would have been multiplied.

My daughter recently had to pass up a party invite that we had previously accepted but due to chickenpox she couldn't go. Maybe it's just my upbringing but I had the conscience to take a card and small gift to the party and explain my daughter's absence which was well received and a little party bag offered in return.

Being courteous is inexpensive to give but priceless to the recipient.
Yes I also was of a same conclusion Rick. Like all stories there are two sides. But goodness gracious would any of us have done this it seemed to me vindictive to send a lesson. But a phone call to have a pleasant moan. And then if this person organises a party most of us know not all will turn up.

I'd tell her to "Go Take a Hike" ...........She'll get nowhere in court. There is no contract implied or otherwise .......... and I don't believe there was a "codicil" on the party invites regarding "Penalties for Non-Attendance" .......

........... The woman needs her legs smacked ............ and putting on the naughty step.

I agree, the woman has got issues....... But i also think its only polite to let her know about non-attendance, im sure he would have found out where she lived if his boy was going to the party....... Seems like basic manners are becoming a thing of the past.

As others have written, I too see both sides to this.....

The woman is almost falling out of her tree, being so petty as to send an invoice, and then threaten court action! She must have one shallow life. And where is her husband in all this? Probably has his head down in his man cave, making models......!

What will be the consequences for her poor child at school, knowing how cruel children can be to each other?

What will the woman's friends think?.....and the rest of the world, literally.

On the other hand, she has shelled out money, sent out invites, which this boy's parents accepted. For the lad's parents not to inform her that little Johnny won't be attending is just down right ignorant and plain bad manners. So she has every right to be miffed - but an invoice!
