Ok there's this book that I once read & for the life of me I can't find it anywhere! So I wondered if anyone on here might recall it from what I remember!

The book was set around June - August 1940, just prior to the German invasion of Britain.

The main character was a farmer called Jack (?) who was recruited into a resistance organization. His codename was The Gamekeeper.

Somewhere along the line, after the invasion had taken the Germans to the Scottish border where British forces kept the fight going, Jack (?) was separated from his wife Fran (?). However she became part of the resistance, codenamed The Caretaker as she helped wounded servicemen etc.

Now does this ring any bells?

Sorry Patrick, unless it's got lots of pictures and big writing...I'm screwed! :D

Jokes apart, no mate can't help, sorry

Lee :)

Sorry, can't help Patrick.

I have a similar request though - my book had two people, a teacher and a student, and an egg-shaped alien trapped in a schoolroom!

I don't know if this is the one.

I recently read a book called Seelőwe Nord. About the fictional invasion of Britain and the secret resistance movement who beat it off.

Mainly based in Yorkshire, it seemed quite plausible, and many of the areas mentioned are my back yard so were of particular interest to me.

Len Deighton wrote a 'What If' book called SSGB, which I didn't read although I did enjoy a few Len Deighton books, in the days when I had time to read! I really enjoyed 'Bomber' and 'Fighter'. Another similar theme is 'Fatherland' by Robert Harris, which seems to recieve a lot of very positive reviews and is a relatively modern writing.

Finally there was 'Resistance' in 2011 by Owen Sheers, which a film was based on is also a German occupied Britain story based in Wales.

Your book might not be one of these but they might point your searches in a relevent direction.

Top man Joe! That's the kiddie :)

Thank you for putting me out of my misery!

No worries. Lots of alternative history lists out there, Google can be useful for researching items other than cats and models :)

For me the two outstanding alternate history novels are 'Fatherland' (already mentioned) and 'The Man in the High Castle' by Philip K Dick. The latter is slightly more logical than much of his writing :)

I have heard good things about 'Dominion' by C J Sansom, but haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Cheers

Perhaps a book/film/game review section would be a good idea?
