For those of you who do not know the story Just Jane and the East Kirkby airfield are owned by a pair of brothers who aquired the site and the aircraft and have dedicated thier entire lives to recreating a living museum airfield and getting Just Jane airworthy in honour of their older brother. Unfortunately one of the brothers died last year when Just Jane is perhaps only a couple of years away from obtaining her airworthyness certificate again so the rush is now on to try to get her in the air before the other brother passes away.

Whereas it may be easy to see some of these display aircraft as a bit of a public attraction and not authentic the committment and dedication of the two brothers to creating this monument in honour of thier brother who was lost in such an aircraft over Germany during one of the biggest bombing raids of the war is an amazing testament to just what can be achieved with dedication and committment to a cause. If they do get jane in the air it will all have been achieved by private enterprise and funding generated by the East Kirkby museum and thier other business interests. Overhauling one engine came in at £150,000.00!!! I for one wish them all the best and sincerely hope they get Jane in the air for the remaining brother to see.

Fantastic pictures Richard ,thanks for sharing.Its a fantastic undertaking , the restoration of Just Jane , I really hope they get her flying again . I'm definitely going to try and get to next years show, apart from seeing all the aircraft it also puts a bit more in the coffers for the restoration !. cheers tony

You can! If you visit on the right day you can have a look inside her through the canopy and you can also book 'Taxi' rides in her. The trouble is the taxi rides are booked up a year in advance. I have booked a ride for myself and my wife for next May so we will be running up and down the airfield in her. Not quite a flight but just to be inside while they are revving up the engines will be an experience. Not cheap at 260.00 pounds a go but it all goes towards the restoration so I'm happy to support it.

If you want to read the story buy the newly released paperback "The Red Line". Not only a vivid explanation of the raid but it also tells the story of how The Panton Brothers got the whole business to where it is now.

We are actually only five miles from Conningsby so we regularly get the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster practising very low over the house. It lifts the hairs on your arm just to hear it.

Sadly these days our history seems to take a back seat when it comes to funding instead going to other things that the pen pushers think should get it.
