I presume it has the said top, as a bottle of 'Original' Klear has just gone through on ebay for £36.50!!!!

What sort of person gets sucked in by this?

Cheers,

Ron

why arent they just but pledge? works fine for me, even says on the label about it having KLEAR in it.

Some people think that its the modelers ELIXIR so silly people pay silly money

Market forces, the rarer it gets the higher the price will go :moneybags:

If someone is happy to pay that amount for it then good for them, and the seller is obviously happy to sell it, who loses?

What's the point in worrying about it?

Another case of."The King is in his all together".

Maybe but why would it bother anyone else? Maybe the guy is making an investment, he could sell it next year for £50

True true! did you sell it Andy
I wish

I have 3/4 of a bottle left and there's no way I'd pay silly money for more but I wouldn't sell mine for a measly 35 quid:wink:, hopefully it should last me for another 5 or 6 years by which time I'll have found something equally as good (not that rubbish new version)

I've seen little 50ml bottles of it from model supplier websites for £3.50 + P&P. Considering the 750ml bottles of pledge (and in their day, Klear) were selling for less than that, someone is taking the weewee!!

I'm about halfway through my 2nd bottle of Klear I bought for supermarket prices (actually Wilko mail order) and I also have pledge now. Some time ago I dipped one part of an F-86 canopy in one, the other part in the other and they came out identical. Plus pledge smells great!

As far as I can see, pledge does the job... I just hope it stays around.

I've never owned a bottle of the original stuff and certainly wouldn't pay those sort of prices, so I can't compare the two, but the new Pledge works fine for me.

I'm not worrying about it......I really couldn't care less if people are daft enough to pay silly money for things, I just posted this thread for a giggle.

Far from the new stuff being "Rubbish", I find it works well and does the job just fine.

Well I have half a bottle I gave to my wife for the hardwood floors hate the stuff . Think I will retrieve & when you get to half full Andy we will join forces & sell the stuff for !!???...

Steve (Stona) you are a chemist, I believe, can you not analyze the stuff & with all the expertise here market it in small bottles as some exotic price.

Laurie - I believe if the "product" is patented / legally protected in some way (i.e. the Brand Name) then this would legally work, assuming he wasn't selling it as the same thing. If the "formula" is protected then there would be legal issues....

This is my understanding of the rules.....

Blimey, look what happens when you criticise someone's floor polish

I'm sure it's great for canopies but since I don't use it for that ................... :emo2:

I'll stick with the good old stuff thanks :goodidea:

Well I've got .....eeerm....several bottles of Klear in the top of a wardrobe. Proportianately it looks like the best investment I ever made! Certainly better than my pension scheme.....or gold.

Bottom line? It's just an acrylic varnish pretty much like all the rest. Those of us who have been around a while will remember we all started using it because it was cheap, much cheaper than the available model varnishes. This is hardly the case at thirty five quid a bottle.

If you are really desperate there are usually people in the States, where the original formula is still available, who will send some across for a fraction of the ebay price.

Madness.

Cheers

Stuart (good name that) I bet most of the ingredients are standard stuff used by lots of manufacturers. Just tweak it a bit for the better & you are away. Advertise the stuff as better than Klear & there are millions to be made.

Did some architectural work for a bod named Ron Hickman the inventor of B & D folding work bench. Took an interest & found from him that he was lucky. If it had been Klear he would have patented it as Klear & no body could have copied it world wide as the patent was in the case of the workbench "a folding work bench". Now you would have to go through hoops & there is no way he could have patented that in its simplicity nowadays.

Not only did he have to defend his simple concept in England it was through out the industrial world.

Matter of interest his folding work bench was most crude. It was the B & D engineers & designers who took the concept & arrived at Ron's Folding Work Bench as it is today. Ron made 50p on each one then later £1. One million the first year (80's I think) then 2 million. Also he was designer of the Lotus.

As Gary would say I am blathering on. Goodbye.
