The final part of my diorama to do with Kwajalein.
A small group of Japanese Infantry are determined to reach a wounded U.S. Marine and his rescuer, but didn't spot the ambush and are caught in the cross fire......

The figures are Master Box and I've altered three of them to give a feeling of a 'Killing field' sort of look to the group. The fourth is running up to help....Bad move!

I've also re- positioned the marines to balance out the finished model.

I hope you've liked the end result.....'specially Alan and Si......!!

Ron, you have done me and Alan proud with this...they set off the dio perfectly. The blinkered, one tracked mind, of getting to the wounded and rescuer, faithfully following their leader into a hero's death...and that is what awaits them. Sad really, but what happened time and time again. Thank you for doing this, reality of war is not always shown and this shows the nitty-gritty struggle and futility that happens.

In fact the last Japanese soldier, although following, almost has that faltering look about him-his commander and comrades are hit in a hail of lead and are going down without really covering too much ground, even with the suicidal tendencies bestowed in their thinking he seems to have other ideas and looks like he is slowing...too late me thinks.

I still prefer seeing the black and white photos though, they seem to give it a much more realistic feel...

Thanks fellas for your excellent posts on this finished project....and the award doodahs!

I tried to recreate the futility of it all. It seemed such a waste of life to follow the 'Death before dishonour' code the Japanese adopted. We all know how they treated pow's, regarding them as worthless for surrendering, but personally I think the ordinary combatant was very brave to go to certain death for the sake of honour, both for him and his family........

From what I know of this/these events in history ''savagery'' and ''desperation'' seem to be two key words that could be used to describe them.

As usual, in your innovative modeling technique, you seem to achieved it.
