Lac halton livery

Hi! Having secured both Airfix Halifax and Magna Halton conversion kits I discover that the suggested livery for Lancashire Aircraft Corporation Haltons was light grey plus dark blue registration letters. This is not as I seem to remember it. I recollect that the LAC livery was light (duck-eggish) blue with maroon letters. It's a long time ago and memory can play tricks. Any ideas? JN

Sorry I can't help much. I saw a profile of a LAC DeHavlland Rapide somewhere. That was a light blue (sort of blueish sky) with red markings and registration. That sort of fits with your recall. However I do remember that this was labelled as the companies "second livery" whatever that means!

BTW I had no idea they operated the Haltons. I knew they had some Halifaxes registered to enable them to fly them to Bovington to be broken up.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your reply.I do have the Rapide profile and see what you mean.

The livery they depict was post Halifax although I think the overall principle colour-wise might well have obtained. There was a story that the 'boss' - Eric Rylands- purchased a massive 'job lot' of this sort of duck-egg blue paint. It featured on all ground equipment; on the Daks; Yorks; Hermes; Connies and suibsequent Coachair livery. Re Halifax fleet - about 45 or so were originally registered to LAC of these 16 or so became operational. At least one was converted to pax with fourteen seats and carrried out a few trans-Atlantic missions. Nine or ten served on the Airlift, latterly as tankers. Most, if not all of these were pannier carriers although only two 'pure' Haltons DV and ZP (square windows) ever joined the LAC fleet. Cheers and thanks again. JN
