Hello everyone,

I am very new to the site so please bear with me, I am starting athread about the building of my large scale M3 halftrack, she took over a year to complete and was all made from plastic sheet and evergreen rod and tube, I will keep the writing down to a minimum and let the images tell the story I have no idea how much material went into her or exactly what scale she is but she is BIG, as you will see later when a 1/72 scale version is shown along side her if any one has any questions about the build please feel free to ask I hope you lie it.

regards Barrie.

Nice to see another scratch building fanatic.

This looks to be the start of an interesting build log, looking at your other large scale stuff it'll look good too no doubt :) :)

As far as the scale goes......

The real M3's 6.18m (203.9 inches) and your drawings state 26ins long

This works out as 1:7.8 ..... so for all intense and purposes 1/8th scale would suit it nicely

Thats a great start Barrie i'm also looking forward to the rest of the pictures

large m3 halftrack build

Thank you gentlemen for your kind comments here are a few more pics, the plastic card used in the build was of varying thickness from 10 thou to 80, before commencing the build I dug up not with a spade but on the internet and from books as much info as possible of the vehicle, details of the main chassis were a bit hard to find and there is a little artisic liscence here and there.

the main thing with the chassis itself was to make sure that it would support the wieght of the body, drivetrain and the wheels and not bend or buckle I made sure of this by making each part double thickness. this used more plastic but it had to be done to hold the wieght. anyway here are the next set of pics

regards Barrie. by the way thank you for the scale size at long last.
