Hi everyone.

Thunderbirds well I guess everybody has heard of them and more than likley seen a few episodes at some time or other so it was about time I tried to make a Thunderbird machine, and here it is the image story of my thunderbird on build.

she is all made from flat sheet and a little bit ( well maybe quite a lot of filer ) she took more just over 3 weeks to complete and stands ove 30 inches tall. I managed to find a good drawing on the internet and thanks are due to Mr Philip D rea for having the time and patience to draw the blueprints and make them available for all to see. I began with the lower x section of the engines making sure that I fitted the engine holes into the unit top and bottom, then set about the main lower section of the main fuselage

this was time consuming having the taper on it but it was a section that holds everything together.

the images tell the story I will dribble on more in my next post part two.

thunderbird one scratchbuild part two

Hello everyone,

well you guys asked for it and seem keen to see the results of my labour, though I personally am never happy maybe thats why I just keep building models to try and buid a better one each time any way here is part two, I never planned to have the wings open as this would mean making accurate wings and most people would have like the wings to swing in and out and that gets complicated so I just made the wings in take off position, the taper of the main fusalage was not as great as I first feared just a gentle curve inwards to the nose cone which was made from two cross sections then filed up with scrap plastic then Humbrol filer and sanded to shape it is very strong not needing anything in the centre to keep it straight.

that brings up to the colling fins and base fins, the cooling fins are just arched pieces with strips added on top and the outer guide wing or base fins are two sheets of 40 thou card stuck together and then sanded to shape, anyway the pics talk a better model than I write so here goes,

part three thunderbird one scratchbuild

hello everyone,

well buckle your belts here comes part three and more pics, all the mian parts are now built but not fully assembled I am leaving the main body off the thrust engine base until I have completed the task I like the least painting, I wish some one close could do the paint jobs for me I just like the challange of building models painting is nit my thing so please bear that in mind when you comment my models when painted are like fine art work best viewed from 10 or 12 feet away and those digital cameras do NOT MISS A THING... blast . enjoy.
