Scale Model Shop

Latest Acquisitions (2019)

After waiting impatiently for 50 years. I finally have a Baileybridge in my scale. This kit is 70' of 12ton or 35' of 40ton span. Now if I can score an extension kit I'll be the happiest man. Oh. I wonder if I have enough truck capy. to carry all this in addition to the infantry footbridge & M2 Treadway bridge materials? PaulE

The kit is extremely well molded/sprued/engineered. Best I've seen in my scale. I may have to settle for the basic bridge as I don't think I have enough trucks to carry it. I may have to steal from the Red Ball Express. F18s flying around today, prolly for Air Show this weekend. I'm too slow to get pics as these guys fly pretty low & fast. PaulE

Now the Thunderbirds went by in their F16s. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow, should be a good show w/both Thunderbirds & Blue Angels. PaulE

No Red Ball acquisitions allowed Paul, you simply have to buy more trucks. That is how it works! LOL..That bridge is a beauty. Glad you're building it or is it always going to be cargo?
:smiling2: Rick H.

We've just paid a visit to Ikea for some new kitchen dining chairs and I came across this.

Being sold as a coffee frother, but looking suspiciously like a Badger/Trumpeter paint mixer. I wasn't really in the market for one but for a single English Pound it had to be worth a shot.

I'll take the springy frothy making thing off and see how it goes with just the ring at the bottom.

Suggestion: Try it out in something other than paint at first just to see how it acts. If it was made to froth coffee it may turn at too high an RPM for your purposes. Have fun, Rick H.

That looks a bargain Andy. Like to hear what you think of it please .

Will do John.

Like I say, I wasn't really looking for one as I'm still able-bodied enough to stir manually :smiling5: especially in the volumes we deal with. Try stirring a 5 litre tin of high build primer and it's a different story! But I figured it might be a cheap alternative for those in the market.

Worst-case scenario: you have to put the metal bit into paint stripper and subsequently use it to froth your coffee :)

Andy .
Been there with wood finishes, shaking the tin to mix up so agree.
I made a small ply box that was glued on to a jigsaw blade for our small bottles, including the 60 ml primer, it was perfect until I left the saw on high speed and reciprocating and ripped the box off. Never got around to cleaning the blade or box up. Reminded me that I ought to do it again .

There was an article in the TWENOT club magazine, De Tank, a few years ago about building a paint shaker for Vallejo-style bottles from a glue clamp and an electric jigsaw.

I made an adaptor so I could fit a Tupperware plastic box to my lathe chuck, and packed it full of the 'old' Tamiya bottles I bought from Munkster a couple of years ago. Set the lathe on a very low speed, left it running for about a day. Result - no difference to the paint. It needs a bit more violent shaking action rather than just rolling.

Met up with Dave, PJ, and John at the Coventry show today. Managed to resist buying until just before leaving, when I spotted this:

A lot of plastic for a tenner:

Just after buying this we were having a chat outside when a Spitfire flew over and gave us a display for a few minutes! Presumably one of the BBMF Spits. Great sight and sound.
