Scale Model Shop

Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Peter,
Thanks very much for the link - if mine turns out anywhere near as good as yours I will be a very happy trekkie.

The panzers on the T Shirt don’t look very accurate

:tears-of-joy: Sorry! Couldn’t resist it! You had a great shop there highlighted by the fact you were in your club plus you got the kits at great prices! Btw the Panther comd tank goes for just under £40 normally however it’s tricky to get hold off now plus you have P&P so double bonus - you still win.
The Airfix kit is a new tool - 1/72 and it’s great! It’s a nice new scale now and picking up again. I was looking at manual t’other day and was greatly impressed - you would have to pay £25 plus to get this to your door!
Classic Cars are not my thing but ICM has great talent and the plastic on this kit looks excellent:thumb2:
Love the mug!

God Bless our Mums and Happy Birthday!:hugging-face:

Good evening chaps and so my official birthday arrivals from the kids and my wife.

There is though still one gift outstanding, as I'm waiting on a new Takom kit that was due for release a week or so ago but is obviously a bit late.

The kids got me the book on China (a podcast recommendation), the 410 (I had to have one as soon as I saw it!!) and of course, most importantly, the Hotel Chocolate Chocolate Macaroons!!

The book was a present from my wife.

I came across it when researching my Jagdpanthers but it's not normally the sort of book I go for and besides most places want over £100 for it second hand....FAR too expensive for my taste. I did though find it for well under £100 on Oxfam's online store but still too pricey for my taste. However, just before my birthday I checked it again and they were doing 40% off on second hand books for Black Friday, making it an ok price for a birthday present!

Beautiful little kit - I have it safely in my stash and the book is a gem. I haven’t read it yet but imagine it to be not only a good read but also a great reference - those JJF books are gold

Same here, it seems to be a UK thing.
So we know your not from the UK then;)

Hi John

I have placed 16 orders with the store over the years and only got bitten once, and that was because some numpty in the UK couldn't read!

According to the UK government site (link), the rule is that if the goods cost less than £135, you can pay VAT in the country of origin (assuming that is an option) and incur no charges on arrival in the UK.

All of my orders except one have been below that when VAT was included. The Polish store in question will NOT let you pay VAT if the order is over that amount, so you have to pay VAT +£12 admin fee on arrival in the UK.

However, with the order with all kits from a couple of weeks ago, whilst the the goods were below £135, the VAT at source took it over £135 and some numpty here in the UK assumed that was the VAT exclusive figure. I should therefore not have been charged VAT on import as a result but I was. I do plan to try to get it back, not that I hold out much hope.

The most recent order, the one you refer to and which came after the one I was charged for, was just below £135 including VAT and again I had no problems.

So if I ever have to place such a big order again, which I very much doubt, I will ensure that the price including VAT is below £135 just to be on the safe side.

Given that the Polish stores P&P to the UK is a very reasonable £3.50ish, it's still cheaper to split very large orders up and pay the two lots of P&P rather than the VAT + £12 admin fee upon arrival in the UK.

Hope that helps!

Yours

Andrew
Hi Andrew,
I too take the plunge on global shipping - I shop from everywhere except America (extortionate and never hardly ever in stock and very few goodies) and Germany - the postage is crazy and greedy. Lol
But even as far as Australia - all very worthwhile. Still haven’t tried Ali’s yet but may do when my ammo counter is back up again lol

As for rules on shipping I thought it was VAT free under said price but there is also duty plus if you get stung Royal Mail will also charge you a pick up fee.
I got hit once for books from Amazon Cn - which was incorrect as all educational books are free from VAT and duty but the muppets couldn’t read Chinese lol! So I called them up and said yeh, fair enough then why not open the parcel and take a peek? He said they had no authority which was a downright lie. They can open and reseal whatever they want as long as there is sufficient cause - and that could be absolutely anything. But despite all this I’ve had some awesome ‘can’t get anywhere in UK’ buys or cost a mint on eBay

From Australia this morning…Thank you! These Dragon dudes hold their price but they are also hard to find

From Japan….Thank you! Difficult to get over here and even more difficult to get at reasonable price. You get 4 complete sets of belts (harness/lap) in each set - regardless of scale.

From the USA (because the postage was very agreeable)…Thank you! Can only find over there.

From Germany (Scalemates - guy was great and very reasonable!) Thank you! Very tough kit to get - rare! But hey, if you love the new tool by Airfix/Revell like I do you can get the other JU88 A - it’s pretty much the same kit. Awesome detail.

And from the eBay (not quite as exciting but prices very good)… Thank you my friend! Tricky kit to get. Eduard - love the kits - this is a limited edition in the true sense - PE, (meh) Masks - (good and necessary) and resin - great! However Eduard is now making a limited edition kit more ‘limited’ because they are exactly the same as a profikit - no resin! Plus when you read the manual you see that they are selling limited resin kits that are for the limited edition kit. For me personally, I dont like that approach and believe it to be a step away from the right direction. I’m not saying resin engine or cockpit but they can definitely throw in some wheels and flaps or something with each limited kit. Just my opinion of course…

From UK normal…Thanks!

Part 2 on its way :thumb2: :nerd:

this kit from a good store - this set has three vehicles - the plastic is excellent! Well done ICM

And lastly from UK cant remember but very reasonable! …Thank you!

and this…Thank you UK store! This is or was a toughie to get hold off…Inbound! Hopefully my little Tamiya 48 VW will be found somewhere!

so this all aside - I’m going to have to tighten my belt - I will need to cut this thread - I need to build more and buy less - I have pretty much all the kits I have ever wanted so it’s time to grow up and focus more on my studies instead of shopping until 2 am. Not good gents! These will perhaps be my last buys - I’ve been tempted by the devil with Merkava full interior and I’m certain an M48 Patton with interior will also be released but I have all different interior kits and a model is just a model to be fought over and then hopefully admired before moving onto the next one.

Now that I’ve got that off my chest I hope you enjoy my latest purchases! :nerd: :thumb2:

Hi Garry,
going back to global shipping costs - have you tried Australia? I know it’s not as close as it looks on map but I just got more stuff from them and my postage was very cheap. You should be able to get stuff from them for a lot less. Let me know and I will pm you

Just ordered the Trumpeter 1/48 scale DKM U-Boat Type VIIC U-552

Already looking into it
I’m definitely interested in LEDs for my interior tank kits. Just a whole new world to be opened up. Did you know that German panzers had a blue interior light? Im saying that so you get the right colour lamp - it may not necessarily be red!:thumb2::nerd:

Interesting!
Brit subs always used red! I wonder what the science was behind using blue!!!

Last time I tried one was the old airfix one let's say it landed in the bin I hope it I do better with this one IMG_20231209_131205.jpg
