Hi all well whilst visiting our friends new static caravan in Hunstanton I checked out the local model shop and couldn't resist these two(the jet engine is a new one for me, never tried anything like it before)

Hi folks as I slowly methodically decorate my way through our house (room 2) so a good way to go yet. I have decided that in the interest of morale and enthusiasm that i treat myself (as no one else will ) upon completion of each room so below is my treat to myself for all my hardwork and endeavour from room 1 (sons bedroom ). I'm now in the bathroom so I'll be pondering over the next few days whilst I'm sanding and painting what to get next ? Can't wait for the next room hall stairs and landing View attachment 253860

About a year ago, I was clearing out stuff and I considered dropping a load of kits into the local charity shops so I had a look around to see if any had kits at all and none appeared to, in fact I have never seen a kit in our charity shops at all. Because of this, I didn't bother yet you guys pick some right gems up from them.

Latest 'toy' from Scale Model Shop. Arrived 25 hours after placing order, superb service as usual John, many thanks.


Six months ago, if you had asked me if I made dioramas I would have replied that I would love to, but probably never will. Now I see this, very much hands on and craft orientated part of modelling as an important subject for the future. To this end I am starting to collect tools and materials that will enhance my chances of success as well as allowing me to indulge in toy buying. I am an addict and John is my dealer........


Anyway, the Masterpiece Models 'Slicer HD' . Basically a tool based on the old balsa strippers that allows the easy and consistent cutting of narrow strips of material. To go with this, I have stocked up with some of their fine grain cork in 1.5,3 and 6mm thickness, three sheets to a pack.

The Slicer is made from an 'aluminium filled resin' whatever that means. It is a robust tool that uses a standard 11 or 10A scalpel blade to easily slice regular pieces from sheet material.

This is a practice run using paper coated foam board at three of the 1/35 scale preset markings for bricks, cobblestones and sidewalk (pavement slabs to us UK people) the other preset is kerbstones.

On the other side is a graduated scale in 1/16" markings giving away its American heritage as no metric settings are on it. Not a problem. As you can see, the blade simply clamps onto the end of the sliding arm an all in all, a simple, easy to use and effective tool especially for people like me who find holing a rule and cutting quite tricky.View attachment 254014



So there we have it. A great little tool that will be of use in my journey into crafted dioramas.

Lastly, from F.O.G. (Fields Of Glory) Models a lovely little resin figure also destined for the Ardennes dio of a US soldier with radio in long coat made by Minisoldiers in Russia I believe

This is a very nicely detailed figure and will, hopefully look the part on the dio

you could alter the depth of cut Dave but it is deigned to slice off so the tip of the blade needs to be just brushing the cutting mat.


once the strips are cut then the individual blocks can be cut with a knife and square or better still, a guillotine type tool. I have had one for ages and never used it, it has been waiting all that time for this day

those Zvezda figures are rea

My better half came home from shopping and had picked up a random magazine for me.
Comes with a free 1/72 PAK40 with multipart crew figures and diorama base. Looks very nice at first glance

Those Zvezda figures are really good value for money. John had a load of them on special offer recently - you could do a lot worse when buying 1/72 figures.

Can it cut polystyrene sheet? Up to what thickness? I think it could, up to 1 mm thickness but thicker might be a problem, poly being quite hard. By the way, when cutting thick poly sheet, I use my Tamiya scriber. It cuts a groove in thicker sheet against a ruler (well held or clamped) which can be deepened with successive passes
