I had a new carpet laid in the "office" last week 7 days later it is on the dump.

They used latex as a glue backing to the man made fibre. The previous carpet had the same man made fibres but another backing.

I just went berserk with itching face ears nose eyes. Airways shrunk. Very awful. Just to go into the room was like going into a smoke filled room. Taken up and dumped yesterday and now returning to normal. So I am latex prone.

The warning is that the manufacturer states that the carpet it is non-allergenic. Now how about that. But if you look at descriptions and what non-allergenic means! Something like the manufacturer has as far as possible produced a carpet which non-allergenic. That is there is not a guarantee despite the fact that it is stated as though there is a guarantee.

The interesting fact is that there are a percentage of human beings, so I have since found out, who are allergic to laytex and more so than I have been found to be.

So if a carpet you wish to buy has a latex backing. Get a sample sleep with it touch it and live with it for a couple of days.

The carpet is being tested. By whom ? Yes the manufacturer. So no hope there.

Meanwhile muggings is £250 down.

That's a shame Laurie £250 down the drain but at least you can breathe now and you found out very quickly what you were allergic to.i was once covered In hives head to toe for 6months and looked that bad (elephant man) when I had my attacks it used to make the kids cry.6 months of numerous attacks! It was a living nightmare I had to eliminate things from my life one by one until I found the one I was allergic to coca cola (coke) never touched a drop since just happy it wasn't beer

Glad you managed to find the source of the reaction quickly. Latex allergy is not that unusual, when I worked in the Lab we had several staff who had to use nitrile gloves rather than the standard latex because of an allergy.

Yes very quick Dave to source the problem. Only problem is a have severe allergic reaction to losing £250. Not taking any chances now going for a PVC type wood floor. As we have had these before should not causes a problem.
