Hello Everyone,
I haven't posted for a long time - had a hard time finding motivation to build models. I dropped on a figure, did another one and all of a sudden I finally felt compelled to build a model. So here we are with a late WWI Mark V. I plan to create a vignette around it. The Mark V will be stopped over a German trench with a broken track and we'll have a few British soldiers coming to get it back while German Sturmtroopers will be ready to engage from their trench.
Here are the kits I'm going to use. I tried to find late war soldiers to match the time the Mark V was in use.
Building the tank was fairly straightforward with very minor alignment issues.
The guns in the turrets are much too detailed as not much will be visible. The kit has no interior, so no doors can be opened.
I started painting the hull with a black primer and white highlights on the panels.
I then applied a light coat of Desert Sand mixed with Olive Drab (80% to 20% ratio between the two).
This gives a light greenish beige colors. From my understanding, the color was some khaki-brown, which I will get to with oil filters. I also added the red/white stripes at the front. I saw different pictures showing the stripes also on the commander's turret yet not on all of them. I decided to only paint the flanges, hope I'm not making a big historical mistake.
I'm using the dot filter technique with olive green, raw umber, Prussian blue and Naples yellow. In the process, I overused the blue in some places and had to fix with green and brown to tune down the effect.
Once filters were applied, I also added some brown washes in the upper track guides and a greenish wash between panels and on rivets. Here's where I stand for now.
I also started working on the British Soldiers.
