discussion Maskol question

How easy is maskol to cut when it's cured? I was thinking of pouring some out onto a bit of smooth glass/tile and letting it set. Then i was going to cut a shape into it and try and use as a template. Would it work?

I used it years ago, painted loads of layers waiting for one to dry before the next, on a wheel of a kit which I then peeled off and I had a mould. Although it smells awful, basically it is rubber and will flex OK so I would imagine it would cut with scissors or a sharp blade. Not sure if it will start t decay over time though, never tested it. I cast a few spare wheels with resin and got good enough results to add to the back of a lorry as spares.

It only has to last one painting session lol. I've cut some crosses for the GB Stuka out of tamiya tape but was wondering if i could do it this way too. Just trying out new techniques really. Cheers for the info though. Might have to give it a try now

I'd be a bit worried about paint leaking under the edge of your "Maskol mask". It wouldn't really be stuck to the model the way a mask made from tape or a Frisket type product. I'd do an experiment on something that didn't matter just to be safe.

Must admit, now I know what you want to try with it, masking tape has to be the sharpest option.
