just got 2 pots of humbrol maskol fo 99p each

i have never used it before as i usualy use tape but for that price..why not?!

just wondering...it says to clean brush with cellulose thinners. Now i had never heard of these before i saw them mentioned on here. will white spirit do the job? if not...what exaclty is cellulose thinners and where can i get them from/how much??

You should be able to pick up a small tin of cellulose thinners from Halfords or car accessory shop. Usual cost about a couple of quid.

I buy mine from a car paint specialist for about £8 per gallon, and this will last me a couple of years.

White spirits is just not man enough for the job, cellulose is a very flammable liquid, and it will melt some plastics so if you transfer it into something else make sure it is either glass or metal.

DO NOT USE IT TO CLEAN THE MASKOL OFF YOUR MODEL, YOU JUST MIGHT END UP WITH A PLASTIC LUMP.

Rj dont bother with maskol use copydex instead its miles better and is water soluble and its far cheaper

noooooooooooooo....copydex not water soluable.

As my daughter found out when she got a pot in her hair and had to have it all cut off!

Still awesome stuff tho!

Copydex is basically a rubber solution and is not water soluable when dry however it should simply roll off a surface with your finger when you have finished.

It is water soluble when wet and its much better than putting cellulose thinners on your daughters scalp

it is however the easiest and most complete masking solution you will find

Speaking of masking fluid,never use your paint brushes to apply the solution,it will wreck them,instead go to your art shop and ask for a rubber paint application tool,it has a shaped end that is fitted into a ferrule,they come in different sizes and rubber textures,one type for paint the other for sculpting modelling clay etc,you simply dip the end into the copydex/maskol solution and drag along the surface,it flows beautifully using these splendid tools,once you have finished a quick wipe with a cloth and the tool is ready for use again,they sometimes come under the name of 'Colour Shapers' simply a must for your modelling tool box,you will use it again and again.

i think i know what you mean barry. i have something similar that is designed for using when aplicating pva.

I find cocktail sticks for really small areas are superb ans for the large areas i buy 25 artists paint brushes from the pound shop to use for my masking (dont even worry about cleaning i just chuck em away and use another) crap for painting brilliant for copydex!!!!
