merry xmas to e veryone and their families .

on the mayan thing thousands of people are heading to a mountain in france because they believe they will be saved by aliens ! wouldn't it be funny if aliens did come and take them away but the world didn't end and it was a an alien version of a reality show and they all got probed and experimented on.:lala::laughing:

As the Mayan culture is no longer extant what happens when nothing happens? Unlike other "end of the worlders" they can't revise their estimate. The usual routine is to say" oops, got the sums wrong,it'll be in another hundred years".

As for your explanation Colin,I'm really confused now :)

Cheers

Steve

if you have time before we all disintegrate ... read "the Mayan prophecies" and "Fingerprints of the Gods" both books are as factual as can be using achaeological/mathematical/scientific research.

It all sort of makes sense when you've read them, trying to get the "idea" across on here in a couple of paragraphs is difficult.

I just didn't want to come across as too "know it all" or Geeky or boring.

Mayan culture is one of my favorite periods (along with Native American tribe and culture origins) .... trouble is you cant explain anything in short cos there's so much going on with it all.

the mayan counting system is 6000 (ish) years old, leap years were invented only 2060 (ish) years ago so they didn't have leap-years, their counting system had three "calendar systems" per year ... solar, religeous and historical, their concept wasn't based on the solar year just pure mathematics. Their calendars (all different amounts of days in them) syncronise every 52 years (as it works out)They counted in "base 20" for recording days (base 18 for the second cycle) so they would track days in lots of 20 - 360 - 7200 - 144000 etc etc.

using their "counting system" ..... the 21st is when we hit the end of a 144,000 day cycle and the calendars converge.

Thats it in simple terms...... i wont go into any more geeky detail cos i dont want to be abused and insulted by you all on my last day or two on the site (whilst the worlds spinnin') :) :) :) :) :)
That's in simple terms?!!!!!!!!!! lol

No wonder the Mayans went tits up....or did they??

Right, tomorrow Dec. 21st's menu:-

00.01hrs. Numerous Boddingtons....lying on the lawn shouting "Bring it on!"

08.30hrs Bucks Fizz and full English breakfast, served in bed (unless I miss something whilst bevvied during the night, and am playing a harp somewhere else)

13.00hrs. Drink, a huge bacon, cheese and mushroom baguette plus drink, whilst carefully studying the sky......

18.30. Drink, and a 3 rib roast beef joint with yorkshires...plus drink. Dark now, so I'll look for a huge meteorite aimed at mother earth.

18.30/23.59 and 60seconds. Drink. Gnaw at rib roast bone, Pringles, drink and try to focus on the heavens.......

Then hopefully....

00.01hrs December 22nd.....sit on the bog mumbling "Up you Mayans!"

According to the Mayans, the world will end on the 21st. (this coming Friday)Should they get it right, cheerio chaps and thanks for a great time on Scale Models, I've had a ball!

If they get it wrong, may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year and all good health for 2013 and beyond.

Now I'm off to stick my head between my knees, try to stretch enough to kiss my **** goodbye, and start to pray.................

Best wishes,

Ron
Now Ron are you sure about all of this ????

Certainly not going to do all that on your knees stuff not got the time to spare.

Just bought a bottle of top malt & if I am going I do not want to leave it behind for these Mayan types. Drink tonight for tomorrow we ----------

So this episode of yours Ron may cost me another bottle of malt. That seems to be quite an exciting prospect two for one.

Laurie

PS not offering a merry Christmas to any one until Saturday it may be a wasted effort.

Just read through this thread and now my rips are killing me, nice one Ron. I'm with you on the Boddingtons mate, but that bacon, cheese and mushroom baguette sounds just right for an "End Of The World" buttie and a "Start of the 22nd" buttie too.

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year.

Have fun, John
