Yes your right ,it is a drasic change ,the issue was derailments i had an access hole in the middle mto lift loco etc out , It was bad design/ planning when i started all those yrs ago gut it worked ok until about 6 mouths ago .
I should pull the whole hillside up really and rebuild the structure but i decided not to ,so i will just manage with what i've got

Had a space issue with mine. I had planned a two foot wide clearance between a load bearing post and the edge of the layout. I had recently finished construction/structures/gardening/etc., and was showing it to my plumber when he said he wasn't going to lift my water tank or water softener over the layout if they fail. I hadn't thought of the appliances like those and washer & dryer failing and being trapped behind the choke point. Hence my layout was changed from a bi-level folded dog bone with peninsulas and a 50' run to a 40' point to point with a peninsula. Consequently, I didn't have room for 6 locos and 60 rolling stock. It is much smaller and no longer has room for the big unit trains but it will do. I did blog the construction & change on this forum. It is a lot of fun.
