Did you guys know that meths eats aluminium mesh?

This is the brush cleaner I made some months ago. It works really well with acrylics - wipe your brush gently on the mesh until the paint stops coming out, a quick wipe with a cloth and your brush is clean and ready for use - takes about 30 seconds.

I'm worried now though that the meths is going to eat through the container and I'll get up one morning to find an awful mess!

Trangia camping stoves use meths and are made of aluminium but the burner is made of brass - now I know why!

but the bottles they sell to keep meths in are made of alluminium...

You think of meths as being fairly safe compared to some solvents. Thanks for the warning though, it is certainly well worth knowing.

If meths is on its own then its stable normally.

It shouldn't react with aluminium but my thinking is that there's some thing in the paint that has introduced a 'third party' to the chemical equation and caused the aluminium to oxidise At an increased rate .....

Are there any 'salts' in acrylic paints? If so .... There may be the problem.
