Model club etiquette ?

Well Alan I would just go by myself for the first meeting to see how it all goes. But if your going by car you could always put a model in the boot just in case they would like to see one

Alan, do they have a website with a gallery so you can see their work?
Personally, if l was you, I'd take your recent 109 coz that's an excellent build.
But at the end of the day, you're a great modeller, so don't feel intimidated by anyone else.
I'm in the same boat as I'm going
to attend my local club for the 1st time next week. Quite daunting especially as I'm usually very shy by nature.

Take your best build Alan. Best way to get integrated into the crowd.
They will love to look at a new members work. They will take it to bits all the know alls who probably do not do much but are experts !!!! I used to be active in a film making club and that was typical the clever devils never ever showed their films.
But who cares. I bet you will get a good reception.
Go with out a model and no body will have much interest.

Agree, take a model it is a ice breaker. As for rivet counters-stuff em. I guarantee after 4 meets you will see if the club is for you and who are in their little gangs and who will shun you and your builds. But, have a good time there will be folk who like your builds and you should get some good tips etc.\ said:

On clubs they can be divided into the "knowalls", the bored and in for the night, nearly interested, those genuine model makers, the fanatics whose model they profess to be the best and the tops those who produce good models and pass on their tips and help those who are starting out. Those last described are the heart of any club and the ones to join.

Don't worry about which model to take. My opinion is that you are an "all terrain" modeller, this is your best presentation
I'm sure many of them will be great modellers....but maybe on only one topic

Read with interest all the replys to this Alan as I am thinking of joining my local model (well I think it's the localest one to me at Witham) and I, as you was concerned, my models are not up to your standards, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I don't belong to any model club, but the whole point of a club to me, is to share ideas, common interests, and to socialise with other like-minded people. Just be yourself and enjoy the meeting Alan. If they are good people then you will be fine. If not then you don't have to go back, it's not a conscription
Like Joe I don't belong to a club....As far as I know there isn't one anywhere near where I live.
I suspect everyone would approach joining a club differently, it all depends on your personality.
Some would jump in with their best, or favourite model and just gauge the response....and see if they like the people present.
Others, perhaps more reserved, would take a model and leave it in the car and hope it comes up in the conversation...then show it.
There are others would not take a model for fear of having it 'pulled to bits' by club members.....Which are you Alan?
I suspect and hope, the first!
The worst mistake folks could make is thinking their model will not as good as the members efforts, and hesitate before knocking on the door!
Everyone is nervous about the first night at any kind of club, but the right one I reckon, would be a great place to be a part of. I would think all clubs, no matter what type, have their share of tossers. I personally love these, they are ripe for the worm on the hook treatment and with the right bait can be hauled in dead easy!
So Alan, I say go to the meeting, take your favourite model, slam it on the table and be damned...."Wadda ya think about that then?"
The nice people will soon come forward, the tossers will huff and puff...Ignore them. You are sure to meet some great people and form new friendships.
Go for it and have fun.....
