discussion Model Show, Llandudno 9th & 10th August

Hello all,

Just thought I would mention this one in case any of you are in the area or nearby. This show will be held this next coming weekend 9th & 10th August at Venue Cymru, Llandudno (The North Wales Theatre Complex) Should be a good show and it is very easy to find as it is on the main prom. Large Car Park at location too.

Hello All,

As stated above, I went for a look at this show Today, not a large show by any means and very heavily orientated towards Model Trains. (I am a fan of these but it would have been nice to see a little more diversity in the types of models being displayed, maybe next year..?)

There was a token stand for R/C Aircraft with small electric ones being flown indoors (surrounded by a safety net curtain) and an R/C Car Track in operation. Sadly the Tank Command display was absent as the BMFA Stand had been extended into their slot where they should have been. There was a small stand with some very nice home made engines which would look the part (and probably sound same too) in any R/C Aircraft. The Maker was there displaying them with his working drawings and his engines produced so far. He admitted he had absolutely no knowledge of designing or building R/C Aircraft but with engines like his, I don't think he will have any problems.

Needless to say for the train enthusiasts, there was plenty for them to see in all gauges and of course trade stands too to buy all the accessories and tools etc.

I must admit I did admire one of the layouts, the one that really caught my eye was more or less the first one I came to when walking into the display hall. This was a Dockyard scene set in 1943 during World War II. Now this was the best combination of modelling at the show in my opinion, A full Dockyard with working railway and the boats / ships on the water were all beautifully made and detailed from standard plastic kits. I think the water was made from resin, It didn't look spectacular when stood next to it (the lighting coming from above so I was probably blocking it out myself) but as you will see from the pics, it looks brilliant having caught the light just right and the ripples in the water etc.

I suspect that this layout is still under construction as one end looked quite bare compared to the other end which was highly detailed. I can see this turning out to be even more spectacular once it is finished. There is one deliberate Mistake in there which I was informed of and that is the Submarine sat in the water, I was told that this type did not come into service until 1944. However that said it did not look out of place at all and was very nicely presented.

As far as I know this is the first time such a show has been held at this location so maybe we will see bigger displays and more types of models on show. The turn out was not too bad and choice of venue was ideal as there are bigger halls here if required.

Well I also went and would never go again what a load of poo poo.This is supposed to be a Model show but was not as advertised.It was not even a good train show.Nothing for the boat modeler at all.This was an absoloute con of a show,as far as I could see the displays were THIRD rate.Funny thing is I was not the only one commenting on this as I overheard quite few saying the same.

I will certainly agree with you on that point, the £5 entry fee was certainly not justified as I also expected a lot more when I got in. Having read the internet description of the show on the venue cymru site, I did get the impression it would mostly be trains on display. When I got inside I was somewhat disappointed for the size of the whole thing and some of the advertised stands were also missing, £5 to get in and everything to see in less than 2 minutes. I have been to far better shows myself, even the turn out at the local model boat club meets or slope soaring meets are better than this show was and they are free !!. I will be contacting the organisers too to show our feelings on this matter.

Shame you were dissapointed Mark but the dockyard model does look amazing. Hopefully the organisers will get themselves sorted by next year but they need you to tell them what you were not happy with.
