Ok folks this is for anyone who is close to the wirral, iam looking at trying to get a modelling club started now Ron (spanner) and i tried this before and we did not have many takers. I have been speaking to colin who owns the kit stop in birkenhead i suggested about starting a club and he has told me that he has a room at the top of his shop that does not get used, so iam wondering anyone in or close to the wirral area if you are interested let me know also ask your friends and family if they might possibly be interested. It would be nice to get as many as possible so if i get enough people interested then i can go back to colin and we can discuss it in greater detail. Please let me know what you think as i think we on the wirral deserve to have a modelling club as we don't have anything, thanks for your time hope to hear from you all soon.

You are right Scott, we did try on a couple of occasions with this idea but with no joy.

This sounds a great set up, and you know I'd be interested. But to be realistic I reckon we would need at least half a dozen 'Members' to make worth while... With the best will in the world mate, I doubt such numbers would be forth coming....

Still, we can only hope and thanks for having another try.....

Ron

Don't forget to try the public libraries and the local papers, Could be there are others on the Wirral that don't see the forum.

Best of luck with it. I would say count me in but its rather a long way to travel!

i would be interested ,colins shop is my local, and could not be any easier for me to get to lol. stupid question,i have never been to a model club so what would it entail, sharing builds, tips and such like or bring a model that your working on and do them together. do you live on the wirral or liverpool scott because your profile says liverpool (i like to be nosey)

I think modellers are pretty thin on the ground nowadays so getting something like this to work will be a challenge. I'd love to participate but too far away to be practical I'm afraid.

My idea all be it a rough one would for the members to demonstrate tips e.g weathering, diorama building, scratch building etc but also bring a kit and work on them together maybe even club GB's. i stay in Rock ferry about 30 seconds from my work

I think i might try adds on face book maybe even print some flyers and see if it gets any response.

Stating the obvious I know but what about the guy in the shop. Surely he could plug it to? Stay open a bit longer on club night, bit of discount for the club. He gets punters, you get members, every ones happy......

As Ian said, advertising is the prime ingredient here and the very best place to start is a big poster ad in the shop itself, i'm sure the owner won't be averse to this given he's letting you the room.

Next stop would have to be the local paper, I know an ad in local papers aint cheap but it's focused which is exactly what you need.

Afterwards i'd go with the local free-ad papers.

Presonally i'd love something like this, the biggest problem being the commute to yours would be long :) it's one of the downsides of a rural area like this.

Look at you local authority/council website. They generally have a section for local clubs and activities. Maybe no good until you are up and running but they usually list these clubs free of charge.

I'm trying to start one in solihull. Anyone from solihull-ish area?

I think its a great idea scott.
