Ever since I returned to modelling about 9 years ago after a long break, I have been on modelling forums. Some are good, some are...... bizarre and others are just unpleasant. In the last few years for various reasons, I have dropped out of modelling and then crawled back into it for various lengths of time sometimes only a matter of days.

But, whenever I do come back I always sign into the forums I have joined in the hope I will be inspired by what is happening enough to keep me in the hobby for a while. The number of forums I have been on slowly reduced as I discovered that some were not to my liking and some were so negative, it has caused me to throw in the towel again.

From today, I am only on one forum. I have terminated my links with others and have deleted all the shortcuts to them. Some that I have ditched are not bad but I didn't feel comfortable on them. Some, not all, had modellers who are admittedly very skilled but they are also very high and mighty. I know there are far better modellers than me on this site but I feel welcomed by them and in no way intimidated.

To me it is like family on here. We may not always agree. Sometimes, we may be too kind to each other. We may not always 'see' each other as often as perhaps we should but if anyone goes walkabout for a while, they know they can always come home when they are ready and they will be welcomed back with open arms.

This may be one of the gentler forums for modellers and, for some, that is not what they want. But for me this is the safest, most harmonious modelling forum there is. So a huge thank you to all those that make it so. For me, this is THE modeling forum.

do agree with you Graham, and feel the very same way, about things,

I always look forward to seeing what everyone is up to ,and enjoy have a bit of a chat

I know exactly where you are coming from Graham.

I too find this to be a great forum, very friendly and welcoming and no idiot's from what I have seen.

For me I just want to show people my work, try and help people and have a bit of a laugh on the way.

I also like to see what people are making no matter what skill level a person has,(I enjoy seeing what people do with a kit),we all started somewhere.

As you know I suffer with mental illness and some days I am just not at my best but I keep painting none the less.

I was on another forum and I would post pics of my figure's there(you know which forum) and sometimes I had pm's from people I didn't know saying "how could you do such and such a model and then produce this crap".I don't post there anymore.

So like you I am only going to use this forum.

All the best.

I believe I know which forum Ralph. There are some great people on there but sadly, the idiots are always lurking to snipe at people. I gave up when a figure maker openly slated one of the members in a bitter and nasty Facebook rant, it was shameful behaviour for a supplier of figures does something like that to a guy who was a customer of his.

It's also you Graham that makes it what it is here so thank you :)

As a railway model guy I am not sure how I found this forum and I don't know of any others. I now enjoy building kits of planes etc which I doubt I would have done if it were not for this forum. The folk on here are friendly and helpful and although the model rail will be my first hobby I will continue with kit building and sign in here most days.

All I can say is thanks for the hints and tips and the excellent threads and it is a pleasure to read the posts.

I do agree tho great bunch u lot are!

Well said Granham and I totally agree with you full heartedly. I have only been back in modeling for say 5/6 years after gap and well I was plodding along and bashing kids (oops) bashing kits etc but here I feel that the forum has developed me and my skills , attention to detail and also put me in the right direction when I f##! it up!!

Also I only did wingy things of WW2 but now I can mess with tanks and even that Polux and Tony have got me on to a modern jet ( powers of persuasion on this forum)

It's fun here and nice to chat basically on anything modeling and sometimes not modelling

Until I decide to leave I'll be here and picking up tips offering help and posting as and when I can.

Kind Regards

Robert

You can just see it can't you? (I can anyway!). Our equivalent of a 'flame war'.

Ron and Graham shooting it out at ten paces - with water pistols!

Wouldn't a water pistol be like an airbrush to Ron? He would have to dip a paintbrush in water and flick it at me ;) :D

I can see that and it just made me laugh out loud ( sorry Ron )

Yes graham you got your new A/b too!!

Yes, seen some other forums that were ok, some that weren't so ok. This forum just seems to suit me.

On at least one forum I've seen people, myself included, criticised for not weathering, pin washing, whatever when it was quite clearly stated that this was the work of a beginner.

Water off a ducks back to me, but I think it could easily dishearten peeps if they've worked on their first model, got something they know is not perfect but still represents something they are pleased with and then get unduly criticised by someone who has been building models for years.

This forum seems to accept noobs, intermediate and highly experienced modellers, and any criticism or advice is either only given when asked for, or done in a supportive manner.

Before I joined this forum I had attempted for 3 months to join another well known forum. I filled out online application etc and was told to wait for the admin or boss to get back to me ( tick tick tick tick )

3 months then I joined here

I've never heard back from them.

At least here you have a chain of helpful assists who never judge you.

Modelling is for fun, relaxation and to show off your individual skill and get info on other ideas tips etc.

We are all individuals at the end of the day so no two models will look the same.

I enjoy my hobby
