Although not as active as I have been, both in building and commenting in this wonderful place I still look in almost every day. As Graham very aptly put it, it is the best of the bunch.

I look in on some of the competition from time to time, surprises me to se how many from here are also on other fora....you know who you are LOL.

But that's fine.

Administration here is minimal and often very minor. Once a year there is a big bust up, funnily enough always up to Christmas. I put them down to stress ...

You can even get away with the odd swear word (as long as not used as punctuation or without need). Try that on other fora.....( lol. I got blocked from a forum for a WTF in a title.... :-/ )

Keep it up guys and girls.

Ever since I returned to modelling about 9 years ago after a long break, I have been on modelling forums. Some are good, some are...... bizarre and others are just unpleasant. In the last few years for various reasons, I have dropped out of modelling and then crawled back into it for various lengths of time sometimes only a matter of days.
But, whenever I do come back I always sign into the forums I have joined in the hope I will be inspired by what is happening enough to keep me in the hobby for a while. The number of forums I have been on slowly reduced as I discovered that some were not to my liking and some were so negative, it has caused me to throw in the towel again.

From today, I am only on one forum. I have terminated my links with others and have deleted all the shortcuts to them. Some that I have ditched are not bad but I didn't feel comfortable on them. Some, not all, had modellers who are admittedly very skilled but they are also very high and mighty. I know there are far better modellers than me on this site but I feel welcomed by them and in no way intimidated.

To me it is like family on here. We may not always agree. Sometimes, we may be too kind to each other. We may not always 'see' each other as often as perhaps we should but if anyone goes walkabout for a while, they know they can always come home when they are ready and they will be welcomed back with open arms.

This may be one of the gentler forums for modellers and, for some, that is not what they want. But for me this is the safest, most harmonious modelling forum there is. So a huge thank you to all those that make it so. For me, this is THE modeling forum.
I am more than happy with this forum and I have felt welcomed from day one.

I know I have only been on here a short time but the comments I have been given from great modellers is overwhelming.

I am only at a beginner level but you still take time to look at my work so thank you for being such a great friendly bunch .

Respect to all of you

I think what makes this forum different is you don't get people that are too serious about detail, a lot like it to be accurate but if a Spitfire MK.VXXI-1.4 Rev 3.43 isn't the correct shade of green it doesn't really matter, I've been on forums and people get slated by other modellers because their build isn't 100% right, which is totally wrong and puts people off.

I am a member of a few sites, although I do not contribute as much, including this one of late. And find this site the best for folk who are, less technical in their approach to modelling-as John pointed out. This of course does not mean that as modellers we are not wanting to get better or strive to get good at various techniques. It just means that folk are less critical if you are:

A-Not so good.

B-Don't give two hoots what it looks like.

Main thing is respect of a person's model-after all, it is theirs.

Besides, I think 90% on this site understand it is just a hobby and they are bits of plastic, not the be all and end all.

Wouldn't a water pistol be like an airbrush to Ron? He would have to dip a paintbrush in water and flick it at me ;) :D
Graham, my dear chap. It's not my flicking the water you need to worry about, but where I would insert the brush handle!.... :P

interesting subject

ive tried loads of forums since i got back into this lark 10 years ago......i currently post on four, all the rest got left by the wayside for one reason or another

the four i do post on are all different yet have one thing in common.........two are car based, the third is plane based yet all appreciate anything....and then theres here where pretty much any thing goes.....all four are very friendly with plenty of banter and here is the biggest of the four

ive tried the big ones like britmodeller for example.....too big and impersonal with too many self important people for my taste.....im not saying theres anything wrong with sites like that just that its not for me......ive tried small sites that are focussed on certain subjects but found they are full of egotistical rivet counters who gather in little cliques to prey on those less fortunate in skills...ive been banned form one place whos admin where so draconian that i fell foul of the 'poor pronounciation' clause (im a bit dyslexic and rarely use capital letters etc!!)...a couple are great forums but cos of the subject i just dont get to make to contribute cos i build all sorts not just whiffs so i stopped oin to them

i like it here....the variation in what people make means its always interesting with different things to look at

long may it remain so

Ooooohhhh Ron! I imagined it to be water pistols at ten paces ...... not close up and personal! I didn't think you'd be so harsh as to shove the handle of your brush in the end of Graham's A/B to stop him fighting back!

I look at BM to see a great variety of aircraft modelling, I come here to talk to (non judgmental) people and share my trials with model building.

I agree with all the sentiments on here. This forum for me has enhanced my hobby and turned it from something which is quite a lonely hobby to something i can share knowledge with and exchange ideas.

I love this hobby its very relaxing and this forum makes it even better.

I have only two things to say this place is lovely your all lovely:) :) :D

I agree with a lot of the above comments. I belong to IPMS Ireland, it is a great forum. Lots of very friendly and helpful people, so I urge you all to go have a look. there is no over the top comments and not too many rivet counters, so that’s my tuppence worth on subject, by the like I also like this forum a lot.

I have a few forums saved and I check most of them. Two of them I participate in, but it is usually just to post progress on a project, or comment on somebody's model. One of the two is really good, but just not much activity in the sub-forums I read mostly.

This forum, however, really is my favorite. I check it a couple of times a day generally... once in the morning before work as I am enjoying my first cup of joe, and then in evening, to see what's up. And the nice thing is, there seems to be plenty of activity in most categories.

And, I really like the way this forum template is laid out. The recent activity window on top is great, and the red alert bubble is very visible.

But most of all, the people here are awesome. Everyone here has been very friendly, supportive, and involved. There is nothing worse than to make up a big post and have it sit dormant.

I only use this one and one more but to be fare thats becoming a homage too one bloke...

This was the first forum i ever joined way back when i started even though i dont get on here very often well as often as i would like..this is one bookmark i will never delete....your doing a grand job long live this modelling haven

This is my only internet forum for scale modelling. Best place by far with friendly people, constructive and helpful....

I totally agree, I've said it before I'm on a few others, if forced to choose just one there would be no problem choosing

This is without doubt the friendliest forum on the net and I love it here, the only way I will be leaving is in a box, but that won't be a Heller box for sure.

Incidentally I have recently left a forum where I was picked on for daring to post an opinion.

This is certainly my main forum and the only forum on which I now post my builds. I find this forum to be the more friendly and more 'approachable' as some others do seem to have some rather aggressive and 'imperious' contributors. I also belong to Flory Models because I like their reviews and they provide some great video and also Large Scale Planes because of my primary interest being 1/32 and larger, but rarely contribute to them, certainly much less than I do here and don't post my builds to them.

I do post my builds elsewhere, but they are not what I would call forums, Scalemates, which is more a modelling database that is quite useful and Facebook.
