Ok, Quick query, how many of us have actually been collared to do something for someone because of our modelling skills but not actually involving building a model...??? Seems there is a demand when people know where to look.

Take my case for instance, A recent friend of mine is just doing up his house, he lives in a very nice old white painted Stone Cottage and had the name Plaque to match "Stone Cottage" It had faded over the years and he was looking for someone to redo it for him.....he restained the whole wood plaque dark brown but the letters were slightly raised and just about visible. Trouble is he did not know anyone capable of doing such till my other mates who knew of my modelling skills pointed him my way. 2 Weeks Later and this is the result.

A clear mask was made to cut out and paint the lettering, the black shadows were done freehand after, all handpainted.

My mate is chuffed to bits and the sign is back up where it belongs......on Stone Cottage.

Regards..........Mark

Howdy Guys,

I painted the name and numbers on my ex father in laws mailbox once.........then got suckered into helping him paint his house.

My ex mother in law knew I could paint (I majored in commercial art/advertising in school) and she had me paint an old chest and replace the hinges. She also had me paint an old 5 gal. milk jug with a "country scene" as well as a few circular saw blades and a six or eight foot cross cut saw with the same theme as the milk jug. So......................I divorced my wife lol. Problem solved.

Have a good evening,

Greg aka GW

ps. me and my wife broke up for different reasons than those stated above, but I dont have bard feelings against her....I mean its not like I want a large truck to run over her.....a small one will do.

pss. I thought I had married Mrs. Right, I just didnt know that her first name was "Always".

The Biggest thing is there is a lot of scope in the market for cheap sign painting ....most modellers already have the skills and so can tap in on another source of income if they need to.

Especially custom made house name signs which seem to be all the rage at the moment.

Outside every passenger cabin door on the ship there is a holder for noticers and mail which is in the shape of a fish.

Unfortunately these sometimes seem to be the victim of souvenir hunters and not only are they a one-off item but they were made in Italy about ten years ago.

Anyway a couple of our crew members removed one and made a mould from it. They used this to make a resin cast that was then carefully painted up with metallic paints. I kid you not you can't tell the difference and I was amazed at what a superb job they did.
