I've spent an hour studying the work in the Mil Mod Euro Militaire issues, but unfortunately am still clueless as to how those boys do it.

Morning Peter

I feel the same about the bust head and you SBS, only the eyes "look" right, the rest is still, as you said a mess!

Your black uniform on Karl-Otto was superb and it seems you have found your "dark side" again with your current multiple transplantee.

Have you thought about E-baying your "reject" heads?

Might prove lucrative!

Looks like chopping in the garden is a real motivator!

And a dry warm week ahead, you might be getting more outside motivation?

Have a good day with the paints

Regards

Neil - I destroyed the previous head trying to get the cap off, and unfortunately the cap as well. Luckily I have another spare.

Lee - And I always appreciate your input. Thank you.

Steve J- I'm trying to improve my face painting at this scale and am getting a bit frustrated. Still, no pain, no gain.

Steve H - I think painting Carl-Otto broke the fear of black for me, though the technique there was slightly different, if I recall correctly. Getting the eyes right is one thing, but I still find toning and blending the face very difficult - making the right colour decisions, working out the lighting etc. One thing that struck me looking at professional work was the extreme contrasts, so that the lighting only really works when viewed from the right angle - something I again find difficult to work out.

No-one would want my reject heads. They're all chopped about a bit now. Does anyone actually buy pre-painted stuff?

Should be finished today - wife's at work, and I've been told that I only need to do some chopping in the garden 'If I really feel like it.' - strong hint implied!

Turned out great Peter :smiling3:.
I remember painting the next figure many moons ago.

Thanks Ralph. Still didn't like the head, so a trawl of the 'reserve' cabinet produced this:

Much, much better, and worth sacrificing an old figure for. Just a few repairs required and some adjustments to the facial tones. I'm having problems photographing this one because of the difference in tones between the face and the uniform, but hopefully you get the idea. This one really is finished now!

Morning Peter

Looks like summer has raised it head, just!

Another successful result with a single colour uniform of a primary colour.

Lost track of the heads, is this the 5th?

You should look at some of the "finished" work offered for sale, it really is poor by comparison with yours.

My current head has been dunked in Alcohol, the paint was just too thick!

I shall try thinner coats with thinned paint and less of them!

I'll try the eyes looking to the side too, as they were not right either.

Having the Kelly's gang here to look at is a real inspiration, I didn't realise they all have almost no eyes except Tele!

I am off next week so alternating between "chopping in the garden" and doing the fun stuff will be the order of the week.

Are you painting 1:16 camo on the para?

That will be impressive, alternative Luftwaffe blue ammo belt?

Looks like a real chance to push the envelope again.

How is the head?

Have a good day with the paints

Regards

Okay Peter - what are you seeing that I ain't? I thought that head with his little quiff was awesome. I'm glad you like the final look on him. I would hate to think you were about to start a cannibal ritual on all your figures in the cabinet LOL. Good luck with number 4. Looks a very interesting figure

Steve H - Good morning that man, and yes the sun has arrived, but there's a cold north east wind here in Kent. Hope you don't have to do too much gardening next week - my back went on the second day and now I can't move. Got a weakness there somewhere.

This is head number five, I think a record for me.

I don't think I will do camo on the para's smock. I've done plenty in the past, but do find in mind-numbingly boring. Instead I'm going for reed green. The modelling of the folds and creases is also very good and it will be a shame to lose it. I'll just do camo on the ammo pouches, which will liven things up a bit.

Yes, all but the Telly Savalas bust had incredibly narrow eyes and were very difficult to do, a feature with that particular sculptor.

Good luck with the bust. The face was looking good to me, but you're on the ground, as it were. I personally don't detail the eyes until the very end in case I have to make changes. May help.

Steve J - I felt the quiffed head looked a bit wooden, and with such a relatively simple colour scheme it really needed some character as a focus. I'm happy with it now, and ready to get on to the next one. It pains me sometimes to cannibalise old figures, but no pain.....

Hiya Peter mate.
Im back to the pew now.Glad all the bits were there for this chappie. You could even do a Monte Cassino one with this one my friend. They wore a mixture if uniforms at Cassino.Ive got just the thing to help with a vignette.Plaster roman columns which are masquerading as Marks n Spencers wedding cake tier supports.Ive unearthed lots of old diorama stuff like scatters etc so guess where these will be heading.
Watching this.
Richard.

Ralph - Hope I don't disappoint.

Richard - Found some photos of fallschirmjagers in the plain green jump suits in Italy, so I could do a Monte Cassino set-up:

(For discussion only).

As for the dio stuff, sounds interesting, but I think you've been much too generous already my friend.

The head:

This seemed to take ages. I'm finding the summer daylight shows up every bump and lump, so I'm correcting more as I go along. The helmet insignia are Tamiya decals.

Hi Peter

very late to this superb build, sorry

Figures is one area where I tend to avoid!

Morning Peter
Late today, getting older!
Good looking head, again, well done.
Monte Casino and washed out green looks like a good choice too.
Matching your references will be fun .
Cooler here today.
Look after that back, not too much painting!
Regards
Steve H

More amazing work Peter, I have the last figure in the cupboard but that's where it's staying

Peter - Thank you.

Steve - Not going to follow the references too closely, but this is proving a nice one to paint (half way through the smock). My back is killing me!

Mick - Get it out and give it a go - you might enjoy it!

Hi Peter
Okay Peter - what are you seeing that I ain't? I thought that head with his little quiff was awesome.
I thought the same. I love the replacemnet but the first was also superb.

The head of the latest figure is great - certainly not a guy to have as an enemy :rolling:
