Hi,

My 10 year old son had decided to cover the history of the NHL (national Hockey League) for his extended project at school ,as we are both love ice hockey and are avid supporters of our local team, where I am the team photographer.

However I discovered this offer at the Airfix website;

http://www.airfix.com/shop/last-chance-to-buy-collection/hurricane-mk1-1-24-gift-set.html

so a quick text to him and the deal was done.

The extended project will be on building this kit himself, with some background documentation on the real aircraft, photos of him building it and the various build stages, what might have swung it as the fact I said he could use my airbrush to paint it !.

He has tried building kits (1/72) before but due to his mild dyspraxia he sometimes finds it hard to manipulate the small pieces, so this should be ideal for him been on a bigger scale.

Its going to be a straight OOB Build and paint, although he did say last night " Dad can we do that stuff you do to make your models look real and used", me " Josh do you mean weathering" , " Yep thats it dad, will need some under the wings"; this should be fun ! :)

That's one heck of a project for a ten year old , this isn't a friendly kit in 1/24 scale but I'm sure with your help he will get through it :)

I am sure we will muddle through, i remember building the 1/24 spitifre when i was 13 without help, so the two of us should be able to bash something together.

It is a better kit than the spit and a bit of fiddling around with this one and it will be good for him , although you do realise once he's built this he will want to do more 1/24 kits I know I did :D

I love to hear Dad's helping their lads, reminds me of the school project on WWI trenches I got from my lad. "Dad can you help me build a WWI trench?" "Of course son, when does it need to be done by?" "This Thursday..."o_O He told me on Monday.

I am sure with that the two of you will pull it off and it will be superb.

Si:)

Nice project, hope you post up some pics, and another possible convert too.

This was a special purchase for a brilliant first school report at senior school. Any more 1/24 builds he will have to fund lol. Yep no what you mean about school projects. Had to build s sword and shield in an evening not to long ago, kids gotta love them.

Loads of warning there. On one occasion mine asked something similar when I got in from work, when I asked when it needed to be finished he said tomorrow morning!

I'm building the kit for the large aircraft SIG, you can read about my trials and tribulations here - http://www.scale-models.co.uk/threads/ricks-airfix-1-24-hawker-hurricane-mk1.29347/#post-254728

You might find my observations on the cockpit build helpful.

And good luck to,you and your lad building this.

Finish the model in Carolina Hurricane markings and your son can do both projects at once ;)

Our local team is the Calgary Flames, this is probably the only city in the world where you'll see fire engines with 'Go Flames Go' emblazoned on them.

Never thought of that, think he is sticking to standard world war two RAF paint schemes. Lol

Man, I wish I had the oportunity of building a 1/24th hurricane when I was 10! Good luck to you both, I'll stay tuned for more pictures

Regards!
