well another week to go before i can spend again then another two weeks i hate waiting but the 16th april is gonna be a great day for me.

Thanks for all of these great pics Steve, there is a lot of hours work gone into your layout so far,it shows your enthusiasm, keep them coming.

Looking good Steven,

You are fortunate enough to have such a large spare room to keep it all in too, I can imagine once it is all completed you will be shut away for hours in there...and who can blame you.

It's a longtime since I had a full layout (Mine used to be in the loft) but I still had many hours of pleasure out of it.

Looking forwards to seeing it all with the scenery added.

Keep up the good work.

Regards........Mark.

i got book out of my local libary on monday and i was looking through it and for some reason an idea just popped into my head that i was missing something on my layout that on the mainline,if a was driving a freight train and a fast HST was also on that line coming fast behind it i would need somewhere for the freight train to pull into so i have put a siding on the mainline long enough for it to pull into.

And when the HST had passed it then the frieght train could get under way again,i will take some photo's tomorrow to show what i have done plus it's add 2 more point motors to the list i hope to have it all wire at the end of this month or the first week in may if the stuff doesn't get to me on time.

Stuff still to buy are:

5 X PL10

9 X PL10E

1 X CDU

2 X PL26R

17 X PL12

2 X PL31

2 X PL9

Plus some red&black wire and i got to get it all for £100 or less

I've been doing some thinking about storage for rolling stock and i know i have the hidden sidings but that ain't much for the rolling stock i want and can't have shevles as i won't beable to get in front of them,so i thought of having a fiddle yard under my layout and to get the rolling stock to the main layout i thought of making a lift to take rolling stock to the main layout and back to the fiddle yard via the lift i did a quick design on my hornby HRV 2 program and came up with this it measure 12ft 9" x 2ft

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/dynamite26/fiddleyard1.jpg

It will be made into 2 section about 5ft 3" to beable to be moved for some reason or other

To continue with the fiddle yard i have done some drawing on paint to show where the fiddle yard will go and ow to get trains from the main layout to the fiddle yard under the layout:

The first one is of the left side of the layout and fiddle yard

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/dynamite26/mylayout1.jpg

And the second one is off the right side of the layout with the train lift and fiddle yard

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/dynamite26/my-layout3.jpg

Well the fiddle yard will have it's own controller to power the fiddle yard and when the lift comes down there will be some sort of contact strip to connect power from the fiddle yard to the lift, and when it is at the main layout level one of the main controller will put power to the lift via contact strips aswell, so the lift will only have power when it is at either level via the controllers.

Here's another drawing of it,i will do the proper drawings on paper anyway here it is

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v687/dynamite26/my-layout5.jpg

Just done a quick drawing on paint program to show how the power will be connected to the lift

Reading the quoted post it seems that technology has moved on if it is now practical to run a fast HST on the same section of track as a slow goods. I think you’ll need eyes in the back of your head to avoid crashes!!

It’ll be most interesting to see how you make the scenery, that’ll really bring the layout to life.

Thread owner
I should of worded that post differently but What i mean in that post is if you had a HST train at a station say 8/9 miles back and you had a freight train that was on the same line going in the same direction of course and was a mile within that said siding the train could go into that siding until the HST had pass him then the freight train could go back onto the mainline and carry on to where he was going as i think they do this to avoid crashes.

Oh I see now! You would put the goods train into the siding then isolate the siding (electrically) then run the HST onto that section of track.

Still looking good Steven,

I like the idea of the fiddle yard and you have clearly thought it out, hope it works as well in practice for you.

Coming on very nicely now

Regards.........Mark.

Well got all the money together and i went upto the people i ordered the orient express bpxed set off and when we got there is stall was closed but there was a piece of card stuck to the shutter of the stall and it read:This stall has closed for good, so that helps me alot i ordered something off them and there closed for good.

So we went home to buy one off the internet but my dad told my mum to ring the other shop not far from us to see if they had one in and by luck they did and they only got it yesterday so we went and got it for £200 here's some photos of my new buy

*** Steven, your threads are fascinating and I can see that you have put a lot of thought and work into this layout so far, just like Greyhead I am following it with great interest as we can all learn something from each others model building whatever avenues our modelling takes, thank you for the interest that you are creating here by going into the detail of your layout,it is appreciated.

Today i made the housing for my 2 H&H 2000 controller and my H&M 4000 R/H add-on tomorrow i will make the supports to hold it above the track and to put a piece of ply on top for the switches well here is two photos of the housing.

i will take some more tomorrow when i have fixed it to the layout and with the controller on it.Here's a quick one to see what it is like with the controllers on it.

Big development

My mum has been saying my layout would be better in the other room and i sleep in the room that my layout is now as i will have more room for stuff that's in the room i sleep in now and i agree with her after i had done some measuring of the other room, as with having the layout in the other room i can make my layout bigger by using all the walls and i won't have to keep crawling under the layout every time to do something, so the layout will measure 14ft x 7ft 5 " on one wall and 6ft on the other wall, plus with layout still in the track laying stage it will be easy to dismantle it and start a new layout so it's by by old layout and hello new layout. And gives me a chance to design my layout properly.

looks like a very complex and flexible layout you have designed there.
