Has anyone seen the October issue of model military international? it's got a great use for Marmite, I've not tried it yet because there is no one in the house that likes it, but next time I'm at the supermarket I'm going to grab a jar, I can't post the whole article because of copyright but I'm sure they won't have a problem with a picture, here's the sort of thing you can do with it :)

Grab the mag it's well worth a read

That looks amazing - I'm not sure how it would age though - I'm sure it'd soon growing a nice little colony of something on the more marmitey parts.

Makes a nice change from the normal application on a piece of toast though!

You wash the Marmite off once you are finished :)

sorry i just could not bare the smell of the stuff !!! and the other problem is that Char adores the bloody stuff and would probably have "Tiger on toast"

Ok.. for us uninformed Yanks.... What in the name of all that is holy is Marmite? I could look it up, but I would rather hear what you all got to say about it...

Bob

Hello all, Bob what else can I say other than YEUCH. :smile11: An extract of Brewers Yeast fermented and ... :smile11: :smile11: Check it out at http://www.accomodata.co.uk/marmite.htm for the history and calorific values if you can stand it!! Too much for me. Give me nicely distilled whisky every time

:scotland: :great: :beer2: (sory could not see a glass of whisky raised to toast you)

cheers

Jim

What else can I say but, OH MY.......

Give me apple butter anytime.

Bob

Marmite is a yeast extract..maybe even............ALIVE....think ill stick with rust coloured oils......

From what I gather, the rust colored oils may even taste better.

:smile11:

Well shiver my timbers,I thought that I had heard it all ? who would have thought of Marmite as a rusty finish maker,we do not have any in the cupboard otherwise I would give it a try on a test paint hack model.

Excellent idea.

Bob Let me tell you that even radio active sludge tastes better than marmite (It is the devils own excretia)

It is the only advertisement which shows somebody saying 'Yuck' to a food product ! you either love it or hate the stuff, you are missing nothing in the States with this stuff.

Tastes a bit like axle grease that has turned rancid.

ROFL... now that is a visual I won't soon forget. It has officially made it to the list of things never to try. And that list is very short. I am just surprised I have not heard of it before.

Yet another great visual. You guys have my wife laughing pretty good at some of the descriptions. I have a very good friend who does a lot of work with his sister company outside of London. Next time he flies over, I might have him pick me up some. Heck, I might even muster up the guts to try a little. Worst case if I don't like it, I have another use for it!!!!

So Barry when was the last time you tasted rancid axle grease?!!!

Well seeing as no-one is going to promote the alternative opinion of Marmite I guess I had better say that I think the stuff is the best thing on sliced bread, preferably toasted! And if Annette isn't looking I'll lick the knife as well.

I think the stuff is wonderfull and you are all a shower of pansies!!!

Using it for weathering is perfect, you get to paint it on and suck on the brush while you are thinking about the next step!!

Ok.. from reading on, my wife actually has heard of it. She is more travelled and learned than I. She explained that you all use it like we use peanut butter in the states. Is that accurate?

We spread it on bread or toast but that is about as similar as it gets.

Obviously a more travelled and learned person such as your wife would appreciate the finer points of such a comodity as Marmite!

it's pretty good as a savoury type additive in gravy's ...stews...pies...etc...

but i wouldn't wanna eat it RAW.......after eating marmite on toast..even garlic tastes like the stuff...
