OK.

A bit off topic but I read that Humbrol are returning ALL their manufacturing back to the UK!!! Apparently there have been quality issues.... Really? It's what stopped me buying them...

Guys...seriously...you all need help

Have only 46 Vallejo paints, 16 MIG enamels and 10 oils....

Ahhh....sorry...and three varnish (gloss/semi/matt)

interesting subject,.........had to go and have a count up

im actually quite shocked,......not by the amount of paint i have but by the amount of paint i have that i dont use!!

revell aquas.....70

enamels (humbrol/revell) .....62

tamiya ......31

vallejo (of various persuasions).......33

automotive rattlecans......44

oils......24

waterbased acrylics meant for art stuff......38

other various bits n bobs......14

ive only recently started to use vallejo, and love it......until a few months ago i never had a shop selling it close by........used to use revell aquas for everything but not any more, just get used for brush painting. (the trick to airbrushing aquas, by the way, is to take a new pot, give it a good stir, almost fill up with clean water then stir well again.....thin the whole pot from the start and just topping it off gives about the right ratio......forget where i read that)

i havnt bought any enamels for about 6 years!, and these days i only use about 8 or 9 .....blacks and greys for washes, metallics like gold, silver, brass copper, etc.....the rest have just sat in the cupboard for years and years...bet 80% have never been opened

the waterbased art acrylics were some cheapo poster type paint i found in HobbyCraft, some really wild colours which was great when i was into custom car models.....took some experimenting but found i could airbrush them.....but again, not used any of them for at least 4 years!!

the oils i bought as a box set cos it was cheaper than buying just the 5 i wanted for pin washes on tanks.....so the others are never going to get used lol lol

well I thought I would throw my addiction in as well

110 Vallejo modelcolour/air

4 tins Tamiya

17 bottles Vallejo washes

6 bottles ak wash

9 ak pigments

6 miniature paint

1=5 ak oils

4 packs of Tamiya makup paints + about 70 tins of humbrol

and some other stuff I can see on the shelves, MY GOODNESS we need help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , worst still mine are for British Armour , now everyone take a deep breath

I found - or rather Steve (Stona) did when I went to his place for some help and guidance with airbrushing - that the problem with Revell Aqua paints is that small flakes of dried paint keep blocking the airbrush. Like you suggest, I start to thin them as soon as I use them, but as you use the paint, you get a 'skin' of dried paint on the inside of the container. It's bits of this that break off into the paint when you stir it for subsequent use. I couldn't see any way of stopping that happening or filtering out the bits before putting the paint into the airbrush.

I used Revell acrylic paints for the first time recently (for my grandson's stealth fighter). The bottle (its more like a jar) gives a large surface area which is likely to cause drying even when the lid is on. Tamiya jars seem the worst in this respect. Xtracrylix are better but still need careful wiping before closing. As mentioned earlier, I prefer the small nozzles and tall/slim shape of Vallejo acrylics.
