Near miss in Spain

Anyone else seen the news about that near miss in spain?

I should imagine the Russian pilot was saying a few choice words. I know the guy filming was using a good zoom but even so the Spanish are claiming it wasn't a near.
 
I saw this. Considering the angle and distance is was shot from I'd say it was not as close as the video appears to make it look. The A340 was crossing the runway not lining up. A good judgement call from the Russian pilots to go around but it certainly wasn't a near death thing. They are blaming the controllers in the articles I have read, but pilots have a responsibility (at busy airports especially), to be able to accept a clearance immediately, if not you decline the clearance and wait. If it was a controller issue then it will be reported and dealt with accordingly. In low visibility conditions nothing would have been allowed near the runway at all, this was a clear day. Storm in a tea cup. It's happened to me and it will happen somewhere else in the world today.
 
Funny that no one mentions the two that actually collided at Standsted the other day. Probably due to no one being killed.

Wife doesn't like flying at the best of time, she's going to Germany next week and this didn't help :)

Ian, she's also going to Denmark while she's there so I told her to call in for a cuppa :)
 
I saw one on the news and that said it was an airshow in the UK, with ,the jet,pilot trying to get a cup of tea i think,:rolleyes:

but did not see or hear about the other 2 :confused:
 
I'm with Joe, storm in a teacup and the camera angle can be deceptive as it's possible the approach threshold is in dead ground beyond the horizon. I've seen lots of go arounds at Lossiemouth and been a passenger on two, the first was at Gatwick because a jet hadn't cleared the runway and the second at Toronto when the jet in front crashed.

Monica I think the one you are refering to was at Waddington this weekend just gone. An F-16 was low on approach as they sometimes do there. It wasn't so much the fact it was so low it was the morons that chose to stand directly in/under the glide slope of he plane. Some who then complained as they were made to dive of fences/ladders ect. If brains were a disease them people would be in the best of health.

I didn't think it was a near miss either. The incoming jet had plenty of time to go around safely - exactly what you're trained to do. Agree with the above comments - a zoom lens will compress perspective giving a false impression of closeness. Having said all that, it still shouldn't have happened.

Plus the idiot holding a walking stick or cane up as high as he could.

Didn't he realise the damage he could have caused to that expensive piece of kit. ;) ;) ;) ;)
